Happy post-Epiphany Season!

You are far more patient than I. I'd be running my anti-virus every A.M. before I did any work, and set *Norton* to clean, rearrange, and do a full system check each evening for anything I'd not personally installed - - - all because of "one strike." You tolerate two; you are amazing.

What I don’t do:

• I gave up routine maintenance of any sort probably five years ago as a fruitless exercise as MacOS had become so stable. 
• I haven’t run any anti-virus software in probably seven years. 
• I haven’t had a copy of Norton utilities in well over ten years since the last time Norton trashed my system. 
• I do have Drive Genius and TechTool Pro but I haven’t needed either to make repairs in five or six years with the one exception of using Drive Genius Pro To Go to repair the volume on a used MacBook Air I got for my daughter.
• I do not optimize my boot drive because
• Optimizing a SSD is not recommended by Apple or anyone else and even if I did optimize the SSD it would have zero effect on drive or system performance.
• My boot drive is formatted APFS (that is not an option with MacOS 10.13 for SSDs and none of the various utilities are recommended and most won’t even run on APFS. 

What I do:

• I run MacOS beta, iOS beta, and a few application betas so I am not just up to date I am ahead of the update cycle.
• I run adGuard AdBlocker to reduce the number of ads I have to endure on the internet
• I run Cookie 5 to keep the cookies that phone home under control
• I occasionally run Malware Bytes to detect and clean any adware I may have inadvertently acquired.
• Running so many betas I there is a tendency to accumulate some detritus
• I run Etrecheck occasionally to identify and hangover LaunchDaemons or  LaunchAgents so they may be eliminated
• Even more occasionally I run CleanApp to eliminate other detritus from abandoned or deleted apps.

I haven’t had a problem in years that wasn’t self-inflicted.

You do not mention repartitioning your machine's drive to accommodate Linux, and to have Lotus Word Pro by IBM as an alternative to MS Word. How do you achieve parity between English, German, Koiné, Hebrew, French, and Latin for spell checking and grammar assists?

Maybe I'm too, too much an *OCD* sort, but I like things outside my own feeble wits to be in apple-pie order, a.k.a. it's where I put it to stay. I do ❤ your admission that you "haven’t had a problem in years that wasn’t self-inflicted." That almost reads like a Lutheran confession of innate sinfulness. 🙃
