Good day integrators,

As you know, we have recently unified our APIs into the new Todoist API v1.

The previous APIs will continue to function throughout the remainder of this year, 2025, as we mentioned in our previous announcement.

As a part of the related upgrades that we have made to enhance and fortify the Todoist experience, there has been a change to Todoist's unique identifier system, and consequently, links to tasks, projects, etc.

At the moment, we have background processes in place that automatically map outdated IDs/links to their newer counterparts; however, as part of the wider deprecation of the previous system, this is scheduled to be switched off in early 2026.

In preparation for this change, our platform has already applied disruption-free upgrades of older links wherever possible; however, there are some links that are "outside our reach" (for example, bookmarked links, iOS shortcuts, etc.) and will require users to take action.

To facilitate this and help guide affected users, starting next month (September 2025), we will begin rolling out an in-app dialog that is triggered whenever a user attempts to access task data using an outdated link.

The dialog will give the user the option to:
  1. Copy the new link that they should use
  2. Add a task to update the link later
  3. Visit the Help Center article for more details
We don't anticipate any major turbulence from this, and invite you to direct any of our shared users who may reach out to you regarding it, to our Help Center article or to contact us if more help is needed.

Thanks for your partnership as we continue to power productivity together. 🤝

Productively,
The Todoist Team
