Dear Community Developer,

We're thrilled to share some exciting news with you! After many months of development and incorporating your feedback, we’ve just launched Todoist API v1.0.

This is a major milestone for our platform, as we've merged the Sync and REST APIs, and rebuilt parts of it from the ground up for correctness and efficiency with you — our developer community — in mind.

What's New?

Todoist API v1.0 includes several significant improvements that many of you have requested:

  • Faster Endpoints: We've redesigned our infrastructure to deliver improved response times

  • Unified API: No more juggling between different API collections — everything is now the Todoist API

  • Official SDKs: We're launching with upgrades to our dedicated SDKs for JavaScript and Python to make integration development smoother

  • Webhooks: Now prepped and ready for the new API***

  • Better Exception Handling: Clearer error messages that help you quickly identify and resolve issues

  • Pagination Support: Increased speed and flexibility through a standardized approach for handling large datasets efficiently

  • Improved Documentation: Clearer and more accurate documentation to make both development and troubleshooting a breeze

*** We’re also revamping Webhooks to bring you a new version.  Stay tuned for more details on that soon.

What About My Existing Integrations?

We understand you've invested significant time in building with our current API and that our shared users value dependability in the service we provide.

Rest assured, we're committed to facilitating a smooth and calm transition, and so:

  • the current APIs and SDKs will remain fully operational and supported during the migration period (currently projected to be Q4 2025)

  • the documentation for the new API will include detailed migration guides

  • we'll offer support for migration assistance

What's Next?

*  Check out our comprehensive Migration Guide in the new Todoist API documentation.  We'll share more details about deprecation activities soon, which we anticipate will happen sometime in the last quarter of 2025.

We're incredibly excited about the possibilities this new API opens up for our developer community. Your integrations have always been a crucial part of the Todoist ecosystem, and we can't wait to see what you'll build with these new tools.

Thank you for your continued support and creativity!

Productively,

The Todoist team
