I have been having a real issue with Chrome (latest version) in getting it to show a simple javascript slideshow I got here - http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex14/fadeinslideshow.htm

It used to display perfectly in IE 9,10,11 FF (all) and Chrome (all) too...

But for some reason while IE and FF are still okay - Chrome will not display same -well, it wouldn't until I got help in the Chrome forums here

- and  learned that turning off the Enable Hardware Acceleration and restarting Chrome would then make the slideshow work.

Client site where this is happening is www.drive-star.com and the slideshow now comes up okay in IE, FF and Chrome...

BUT...my question is to Chrome experts - why would any 'hardware acceleration' have any bearing on the javascript slideshow?

Plus - do I have this right - will this continue to work for all Chrome browser users?

Sorry if I'm a bit scattered on this....but I can't wrap my head around why Chrome would disable the slideshow?

I am not getting an error... hardware acceleration is not disabled.

You have a missing file specified in the slideshow config

This is probably a timing issue and not related to the Hardware acceleration setting

Sorry? I never get that error - using IE, Chrome or FF latest versions...so I am assuming that your own setup is somehow at fault?

There are 27 slides, all .jpgs in the slidepix folder - all show up all the time - not a one is missing.....

So...I'm at a loss here still.....

Anyone else?

Does the slideshow work in incognito?
Control + Shift + N will open an incognito window.
If it does work, that means some extension is messing with your page (incognito disables extensions) in an incompatible way.

Okay didn't know that Incognito trick...

But yes the incognito window DOES show the slideshow....but here's the issue with all of this...

Chrome used to show the slideshow perfectly for  years - until about a month ago when it would not.

Not on any of the computers here at the office, my home, 6 beta testers I asked all over the US and the client too - who was pissed of course...

then it started to work just last week - I was told over at the Chrome forum it "may" have something to do with the hardware acc item....but
that appears to not be something...

so...why did Chrome quit showing the javascript slideshow for about a month?

ALL my contacts now see the slideshow in their own Chrome....but why?

I made NO changes to the page....yet it now works...why?

And further - can you understand why that makes me "NOT" want to ever use Chrome as you can't count on the browser to work with a simple javascript ?

It may have been an extension or something that somehow all of the affected people had installed. I am not sure.
This sort of thing (broken for a "month", not for a release) does not really make sense.
A release can break stuff sometimes, there are always bugs - every software has them, Internet Explorer earns new bugs with its 'security fixes", for example. :)
You are welcome to try other browsers, of course, but bugs are not limited to Chrome. Every software has bugs, unfortunately and if the release cycle is rapid (like Chrome, Firefox and Opera), bugs that creep in can be resolved in a six weeks or less, rather than in a year.

I'm experiencing the same thing, a lot of javascript functions that depend on animation don't work anymore, while they always did. Slideshows, animated scroll-to-top functions and fadethenslidetoggle-actions suddenly fail without errors in the console. The strange thing is that they both fail for me in the dev build, but also for my coworker who is using the stable build. IE and Firefox display everything as they should, and often when I execute the same function from the console it works, but it doesn't when executed from the code itself.

I've tried it in incognito mode, disabled all extensions and hardware acceleration, but it keeps happening.

A sample page that reproduces the issue (in your browser, at least) would be helpful to diagnose the issue.

I have the same problem.  My slideshow worked with my last version of Chrome and still works with Edge, Firefox and Safari.  What gives?

Are you sure it is the same problem from 4 years ago? ;)

You can search crbug.com for an existing issue and star it. If you cannot find one, file a new issue using the "New issue" link on the same page.
Please, do not add a "+1" or "Me too" or "Confirmed" (or similar) comment. It just wastes the time of Chrome engineers and sends unnecessary e-mails to all of the people who starred the issue.

You can reply with a link to the found or created issue and might get triaged (and fixed) faster.

Thank you.

SOLVED.  I opened Chrome in incognito mode and when I closed the browser and reopened it, the Javascript slideshow worked in the new browser version.
