Now that Monorail (the Chromium bug tracking system) has hotlist support (basically a way to keep track of a list of bugs), I'm wondering if it'd be helpful to add one for distro issues.

The advantage of hotlist is we could more easily give edit access, as opposed to adding issue labels or adding blockers on a tracking bug.

I hope this would give chromium issues that affect our community better visibility in at least the following ways:

1. As a way to get attention of Chromium project members and potential contributors. We can give them one pointer, that makes it easy to count open/closed issues and see the current list.

2. Help other packagers see issue status, follow updates, and more easily deduplicate.

I intend to move forward with this provided some reasonable interest.

Hi Pawel,

I would be interested. What do you expect of distro packagers? That part is not clear from the email.

See the following threads for context:

Looks like every year a thread appears to better handle bugs affecting distro package users/developers. I'm looking for a systemic approach to that here.

I created https://bugs.chromium.org/u/phajd...@chromium.org/hotlists/Chromium-Packagers?can=1 (you can switch the UI to only show open bugs) to demonstrate what I have in mind.

Next step is giving you folks edit access that'd allow you to add bugs to above hotlist. For that you need an account on bugs.chromium.org (effectively a Google account). If you're interested in that, please just let me know.

I do see the value of this hotlist. Usually when I run into issues I have to check out my fellow distro packagers' repositories to see if I am the first to hit the wall, but having packaging / compilation issues grouped together would certainly help. Plus, it's worth the effort to get some of the patches upstreamed or else receive a good reason from Google why that's not going to happen - and that interaction to be visible by the other packagers too.

That's a useful tool for cross-distro collaboration, thanks for
creating it Paweł.
Please give me edit access (I maintain the Ubuntu packages).

Olivier

Paweł (probably) can't, but I can. Please send me an email off-list requesting access and tell me what account you want to use (same goes for anyone else interested).

Hey Dirk, glad to hear from you on this thread.

From what I can see I'm able to add people. The only requirement is there needs to be a valid Google account corresponding to the email.

FWIW, there's an option to transfer the ownership if needed so this should be quite future-proof. Ideally we'd have a team of owners who can manage who has access.

Other than that, looks like no one got added as an editor yet. Did we hit any technical issues with that?

Paweł

Actually I just added all of you: Eric, Olivier, and Dirk. I'm glad the hotlist may be useful for you.

Everyone else: you're also welcome to join, just let me know.

I emailed Paweł privately a couple of times about this but didn't get a reply. Could someone add me to that Chromium-packagers hotlist?
