Hi:

I've been trying to ssh to my workstation using the secure shell app from my chromebook but keep getting the same error

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
NaCl plugin exited with status code 255.

I'm not doing anything different from what I've done before and I used to be able to connect before. I am using SPDY proxy.
Any suggestions?

Hello I have been having the same issue from my Chrome version information is as follows:

Google Chrome30.0.1599.116 (Official Build 230306
Platform4537.147.0 (Official Build) stable-channel lumpy
Blink537.36 (@160274)

Secure Shell: 0.8.22

Passing the "-vvv" argument to SSH I get the following error:

Loading NaCl plugin... done.

The same key works on other machines using Termite (Linux) and iTerm2 (Mac OSX) and Secure Shell using the stable channel for Linux and Mac.  Only my Chromebook is having this issue.  This happens with RSA and ECDSA keys

How did you import the cert?  Maybe it got mangled by a webserver in transit?

Try opening a JS console and typing...

  lib.fs.readFile(nassh_.fileSystem_.root, '/.ssh/id_rsa', console.log.bind(console))

Rob.

I used the import link from Secure Shells UI and imported them from there.  I had them on my Chromebooks local SSD when I did it.  I had issues trying to upload files from Drive Storage in the past, so I just copy the files to the SSD before uploading them now.  I have also tried deleting the public/private key pairs off my Chromebook's local storage that Secure Shell uses, and importing them before reporting this.

Running that command in the console on my Chromebook looks like it returns two values: the first value is "undefined" and the second value is my private key which looks valid to me.  Running it on my Mac, which is one of the machines where Secure Shell works, I get similar results.  I have not tried running the keys through a diff program yet to see if there is a slight difference but they look the same to me.

Hi
I've encountered the same problem, and the js command or rebooting seem don't work. How did you fixed this problem?
My console can ssh to my desktop, but when it comes to secure shell, it has this error.
Thank you very much.

Rose

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly I ended up having to remove the keys from the local storage and reupload them into secure shell.

Hi - i suddenly ran into this issue (after secure shell had been working in the past).  I followed all the suggestions in this thread including the last one "removing the keys from the local storage and reuploading them into...", and it still gives me the same error.  Any additional suggestions?
Thanks.

I'm encountering this also. What is the recommended means of using this plugin with public key auth instead of password? It doesn't seem like it was even considered when designing it, so forcing us to use this instead of openssh is kind of dumb. It'd also be nice if I could see known_hosts/key fingerprints other than MD5. The official app appears to be a designed with no knowledge of how anyone uses SSH beyond "type address enter username password get shell," or an assumption that anyone using it treats SSH as such.
