I agree that this suggestion is much better than the current implementation. Currently, if you search for one of my extensions it returns: "did not match any items." This just seems ridiculous to me.

Joe, Renato: do you agree that this is a big problem that needs to be fixed or does the webstore team believe that this is really the best format? Who would be best to share my experiences with in order to find a better solution?

I noticed today that when searching within the Chrome Web Store the initial items listed are under the default type Apps and the user must make an extra click for Extensions or Themes if they want to see other items. I believe this extra step is not noticeable enough and is potentially hiding many valuable extensions from users.
My suggestion is to insert a new default type All where users would see all items from all types and then the user can choose Apps or Extensions or Themes

Will repeat what I said in this thread: https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/chromium-extensions/kOFrn-K8eIg

This is a REALLY bad user experience. It is also terrible for extension devs. I am received over 25% LESS installs daily since this change across all my extensions.

I agree; I think an interface like the Play Store's, which shows results from each section (if any exist) with the ability to filter, might be better here.

I think extensions should really be the top search results because most users want an extension instead of "apps" which are like fancy bookmarks.

Just wanted to throw my opinion in here. This is detrimental to extensions. Jason is absolutely right; "All" should be the default.

My extension, Awesome New Tab Page, is installed by many users who go to the Chrome Web Store and search it. Many of these users have no idea what the difference is between an app or an extension, nor should they. Yet if you go and search my extension, in the default listing, it's nowhere to be found. More than that, there's nothing even remotely related to Awesome New Tab Page in the results. Google is a search company, and this seems opposite to its core philosophy in search. Give users what they want; sort by relevance, not type. Give them the tools to filter as they see fit.

This change to search is still seriously killing install rates for extensions that live on search, I thought it may be down due to Thankgiving but this week has been ridiculously low compared to the past.

Would love to hear feedback from official peeps.

Here's a video showing how this experience impacts users trying to find Awesome New Tab Page.

This is not a video I requested; just got the Google Alert.

I think this accurately shows why this is a bad change and should be corrected. The user struggled for over half a minute trying to figure out how to find search for the extension.
