Dear all,
Thank you to those of you that came along to the recent Microbiome Analysis Meeting. At this meeting, we heard from Dr Gareth Price, Project Lead for Galaxy Australia on Showcasing the New Microbiology Lab on Galaxy Australia and then we heard from Dr Ziad Al Bkhetan, Product Manager for Bioinformatics Platforms with Australian BioCommons who presented an Introduction with Q&A to ABLeS and the Nextflow Seqera Service! You can see the recording from this meeting here.
In this meeting, we identified two new activities to get involved with:
Creation of a collection of relevant and useful training resources in Microbiome Analysis or Metagenomics. Please take a look at this example of a collection from the Structural Biology community. The idea is that these collections are public view, managed and administered by BioCommons. Let me know what you think, or please add any recommended or suggested Microbiome or Metagenomics learning training, videos or tutorials to this spreadsheet.
Related to the development of the collection described above, there is an identified need to better share and support education and training in microbiome analysis and research. Community members have indicated we may be able to borrow from the following program - the Microbiomes In Computational Research Opportunities Network (MICROnet). If you are interested in joining a more focused discussion around microbiome education and training, please let me know.
Our next Microbiome Analysis meeting will be on Tuesday 27th May, 13:00 - 14:30 AEST (more details at the bottom of this email). At the next meeting, we will hear from PhD candidate, Ms Yufei Zhou, University of Canberra on Gut microbiome of marine fish as an indicator of climate change using real-time sequencing technologies.
Additionally, I have also included details below of a roundtable meeting that will be held tomorrow with members of Europeans European Nucleotide Archive on MAG submissions. See details below.
I welcome other presentations or agenda topics so please get in touch with me if you have something to add.
All are welcome so please share widely.
Regards,
Tiff
Let others know they can join this Microbiome Analysis google group.
