Hi,

Maybe (hopefully) a stupid/simple question, but how would you use a (or several) Google calendar in timemap? Is there a dummy demo/explanation available somewhere?

Thanks!
Michael

Hi Michael -

The quick answer is that, at least the last time I looked, this is tricky. The Calendar API doesn't actually include the geolocated event location, so Timemap.js can't easily get location info. Unless this has changed, you'd need to additionally make a call to a geolocation service (Google has an API for this) for each event, so that you have a mappable location.

So there isn't a super-easy way to do this right now, as far as I know - sorry!

Hi, I am also trying to come up with a solution for this. Part the solution I have come up, is that the feeds o be displayed by Timemap will be held in a spreadsheet with data, such as a default lat, long. If e event is happening in a location other than the default location, lat, long will need to be specified in notation at the end of the location field, after any human readable location. Such as "Toronto Convension Center {+234.87654, -124.86551}"

This way timemap can parse the lat long, if supplied, or use a default location if events tend to happen in the same spot.

To make life easy, I was planning to take the XML feed generated by google on all google hosted calendars, that way its almost identical to receiving a RSS feed, functionality already in Timemap.

It's not a perfect solution, but it's the best I could come up with. I have not as yet found a in-use way of appending gps info onto a calendar event, but I do know that there is a few calendars doing it currently.
