Hotmail's out to drive us batty.

Open Options for Webmail - Hotmail, and under the mode tab, switch
from "Windows Live" to "WebDav"; and it works properly again.

Another option is to check whether you have been changed to free
Hotmail. After getting negative vibes I changed the settings and the
emails came rolling in. The settings are as follows:-

Webdav will only work if you have an old free Hotmail account.
More and more people will have access to POP on Hotmail as it's rolled
out worldwide. It's now got to be worth anyone trying POP access where
ever they are.
Incoming server, pop3.live.com, port 995, use SSL. Your full Hotmail
address as user name and your normal password.
Outgoing, smtp.live.com, port 587, TLS.
If this works for you, you no longer need the extensions. You'll be
using access provided natively by Hotmail.

Hi all - getting the same error and error console messages as above.
Changed my old, original hotmail.com to WebDav which made it work, but
when I changed my newer hotmail,co,uk to WebDav it still wouldn't
work. I'd rather carry on using the extension than something provided
by Micrososft Hotmail - all hail the independents.

Webmail author - any chance of fixing this? Many thanks again in
advance.

I'm from switzerland and i got my hotmail account since hotmail
exists.
Anyone up for a tip what i can do?

I'm struggling too. I feel so sorry for the author of this plugin - in
the space that Hotmail has broken integration three or four times,
Gmail continues to be as solid as a rock.

WebDav doesn't fix it for me. I'm on WebMail - Hotmail 1.2.19

Any ideas?

Cheers

Thanks Chris - for me this fixed the "negative vibes" from Hotmail.com
which started this morning 15 Feb in Sydney Australia. Many thanks to
the author of the Webmail extensions which make Thunderbird so much
more useful.

Maybe Hotmail are changing the coding on the web pages at the same time
as they roll out POP3? Who knows? Hotmail moves in mysterious ways, and
small changes in the web pages can and do break the extension.

I've been having the same problem and just set up to receive my
hotmail via the POP access. Simply delete your hotmail webmail addon
in TBird. Open your hotmail account in account settings in
Thunderbird. Go to server settings > In the Server Name field add :
pop3.live.com > change the port to 995 > change secure connections
to : SSL and it should work fine as long as you are using the new
version of Windows Live - Hotmail.

Interesting. Just tried it out and logging in seems to work properly.
Filling in an bad password is correctly detected. Filling in a correct
password is accepted, although I get a "User does not have POP3
access"-error. Seems that it will need to roll a bit more till it
arrives to me. Let's hope I'm located downhill :P

If you're like me, your hotmail extension quit working and the
"negative vibes" error came back.. Good news is we don't need the
webmail or hotmail extension anymore to access hotmail accounts. Save
your important emails from your hotmail accounts, uninstall webmail
and hotmail extension, delete your hotmail account from the account
settings, then use the following settings for setting up a regular
email account in Thunderbird.

Server name: pop3.live.com
User name : your full email address
Port:995
Use secure connection: SSL

Outgoing: smtp.live.com
Port: 587
Use: TLS

No more extensions needed, you are using access provided by hotmail,
live.com, whatever you want to call it!

You can simply edit your existing Hotmail account in Thunderbird to use
these settings, that's what I did. No need to delete the account.

You don't have to delete your hotmail account at all, just change the
server settings.

They are slowly rolling in POP3 in a by country manner eg they
probably want to keep milking! Here is message from Microsoft this
month (Feb)
Some time ago, Windows Live indicated that they were working on
implementing free POP services for Windows Live Hotmail. The time
has come and we are glad to announce that we have begun rolling out
free POP3 services to all Windows Live Hotmail users. Since Windows
Live Hotmail spans such a large infrastructure, we need to turn this
on in a controlled manner. We have decided that it would be most
appropriate to bring our users on by country. This will allow us to
slowly ramp up the new POP services and expand to the infrastructure.

Currently some of Europe, US and SA are done but not Australia and New
Zealand just keep waiting!!!

guys i think the info page, the one we receive before the inbox is
displayed, is back for many of us , since there HOTMAIL server had
some outage recently, the dont show again setting seems to have been
lost... i have three hotmail accounts, all of them gave me negative
vibes for the past 2 days but when i checked 2 days ago i didnt get
the info page but magically the info page is back today, so it might
be the problem with some of u guys[since i had this info page return
for all three of my accounts, i guess its no harm if u check the site
once again ;-)

In Thunderbird, "Tools","Account Settings". Scroll to the bottom,
"Outgoing Server (SMTP)", here you can edit existing SMTP servers or add
new ones.

It was there (the information page) for me this morning when I logged
into the web site to check the Junk folder. I also noticed that the
following page looked very different from previously, this could also be
a problem for the extensions. I no longer use the Hotmail extension, as
I now have POP access, but this could explain why many others are having
negative vibes. If the negative vibes are due to a change in Hotmail,
there's nothing you can do but wait for an updateto the extension or for
Hotmail to roll-out POP access on your account.
