I have set-up a Orentitation Type Contxt to set the phone to Silent
with Vibrate when place Face Down.

I have found that when the phone is locked and i place the Desire Face
Down, Tasker can't set the Silent mode on. After i drag to unlock,
Tasker kicks in as expected and sets the phone to Slient as set.

Please advise.
Khiem.

Hmm... another issue with Desire not changing profiles when the phone
is asleep...?
http://groups.google.com/group/tasker/browse_frm/thread/6fa6398ec69f086c/159c466945bb7fe5#159c466945bb7fe5

Google shows some results when asked for Desire and waking up - maybe
that's the root cause?
http://www.google.com/search?q=htc+desire+alarm+problem&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a

There used to be a very similar problem on Milestone 2.1 and it has
been fixed by the latest software releases (changes in kernel). Is
your alarm clock working correctly?

A.

Hi Pent,

This is still not working for me after updating to the next version
(1.0.7).
The suggested work around using Variable Values combined with Events
(suggested here:
http://groups.google.com/group/tasker/browse_thread/thread/af47b09c070be2d9/9a2a2e8f71f79cd7?lnk=gst&q=face+down#9a2a2e8f71f79cd7)
isn't working for me either.
Any ideas?

What exactly isn't working?
What do you expect B3rz3rk3r?

When the screen is locked BUT ON this works perfectly now. (for me
that is)
So, when i want to silence the phone, i turn it on and put it face
down.

... and if you want gestures/orientation with screen turned off, see
this thread:

Not working for me (Motorola Droid, Android 2.2, 1.0.7)

Log Contents: 8-11-10 12.47
M: 12.47.21#M: ACC: monitor start:
already started.

Using a simple "Notify LED" notification upon "face up". Triggers when
display is turned back on, does not trigger when display is off (I
turned display off, waited about five seconds, turned display back
on).

Log sent.

Ah. I had thought the intent was to make orientation state accessible
while display was turned off. If that is not the case, disregard my
previous post.

I think I'm missing something here :)

It's not supposed to work when the screen is off (I don't see any
solution to that in BossMan's link BTW).
What's new since the last version is that it now works while the phone
is still locked but with the screen on.

Or do I misunderstand your problem?

No, you're fine. I was missing something. I was under the impression
it was being written to work while the display was actually off. It
works just fine while the display is on yet locked.

Thanks and sorry for the confusion.

Best way I can explain is that the orientation isn't sticking.
When the device is awake/screen on, it works perfectly.

For example I have a silent mode activate when the device is placed
Face Down.
After about 5 minutes with the screen off (still placed Face Down) the
notifications and calls still come through loudly when they should be
silent

So the moment you turn the phone face down the screen is on? <-
important detail
So if you would look at the screen at that moment it does go into
silent mode?

Then you put it on the table and after 5 minutes the silent mode
seemed to have turned off itself?
Is this what you mean?

I want to be sure because if the screen is off when you turn it face
down on the table silent mode will not activate. The orientation is
not checked when the screen is off.

Yes exactly. I have the screen on and active (this now works when
locked too, Thanks Pent).
I have a glass desk I have been using to test this. Placing it face
down activates the silent profile correctly, when the screen goes off
it is still active for a few minutes (tested by calling/sms), and
within under 5 minutes it has deactivated itself somehow.

Confirmed, my face down profile puts it into airplane mode.
Last evening I did just that (making sure it was in airplane mode) and
about half an hour later I received a text message. ?!
Tested some more and found out that after a while airplane mode turns
off after a while.

So, something makes the profile stop.
Tested on 1.0.8b
HTC Desire Froyo

Is there anyway you can think of that we can narrow down what's
causing this, so we can request a fix?
At the minute, it seems to me like the sleep function of the phone is
overriding Taskers' settings perhaps?

I tested it some more and made a separate forum entry about my ideas.
Maybe it'll get more attention this way, 'cause this is a pretty
annoying bug. Makes all the silent en airplane mode profiles pretty
useless. (Besides hacking with variables and stuff)
