Orientation profile not sticking - Reason: Display Off Timings?

Hi,

some recent discussion about orientation profiles in combination with
some strange things happening on my phone led me to some testing to
find the reason.

What happens:
My profile sets silent mode on when the phone is face down.
I put the phone upside down (while on) and leave it on the table.
Half an hour later I receive a text message with a lot of sound, so
silent mode decided to turn itself off.

What I tested:
Set the "Display Off Timings"- "All Checks" to 65
Turn the phone (above my head so i can see silent mode turn on) and
turn off the screen. Leave it face down on the table. (I know that's
not even necessary, because orientation isn't checked when it's off.
But anyway)
After 140 seconds the silent mode is off again (checked by turning on
the device)

Same story with "Display Off Timings"- "All Checks" to 120
After roughly four minutes the silent mode is off again.

Leaves to me to think that those two are connected.

Forgot to mention:
Tested with 1.0.8b2
On HTC Desire running Froyo

But the problems i had with this also existed in at least 1.0.7 and
1.0.6.

Good information, thanks, and completely plausible that the
orientation state is somehow mistakenly dropping out while checking of
the other contexts is going on.

I'm experiencing this problem too, with a similar profile, with
variable reproducibility. I changed the context to 'face-up' to make
things a bit easier, reduced the display off timing as above and
waited. The exit task didn't fire on a time expiry, but when I
unlocked the phone. The phone profile was back to silent off, but the
tasker profile was still showing in the notification area.

Additionally, when the phone then went to sleep again, the exit task
did trigger after a while, then the entry task triggered again. ie.
genrally screwy.

This is on an HTC Desire android 2.1

Just trying it on a friend's Galaxy S...

Iv just run the same tests Calvin did and can confirm his findings are
not unique.
Same problem here.
HTC Desire, 2.2
Tasker: 1.0.7

On my mate's GS, profile seemed to exit when he went into Handcent.

I love easily reproducable bugs, it was definitely the off-check
causing the problem. Thanks again for the detective work.

Next time is usually next beta unless I'm panicking and have to push
something
straight out as 'stable' :)

Glad that my hunch turned out to be right. All those years as software
developer were good for something :)
Now back to being a math teacher....
