Any sports fans out there because I just whipped up my second free android app, this time its a widget.

Lets you put your favourite sports team on your home screen, also shows you how many other people support that team as well.

For those who are interested, creating this android widget was decidedly harder than creating my first application, a few nuances that need to be overcome in widget land that arnt an issue when making an app, if anyone needs advice/help just email me www.nathanparrott.com

Let me know if you like it guys.

    Hey all,
After a stupendous amount of work we're getting ready to officially launch
our app and switch to a paid system. Up until this point we've been
working off word of mouth to get people using and testing our app, which
has worked out pretty well (we started with roughly 200 friends
and colleagues and we're now up to about 5K mostly thanks to
    Gus<http://twitter.com/gusjohnston> and
the viral nature of the app). In the last week we've had a few meetings
with some of our local users to get any last minute feedback and overall
they'll really happy with what we've built. Now it's time to break out of
that network and try and reach a wider audience.

So, my questions - I'm curious to hear from those who've gone before us,
what should we be thinking about? Is there anything that you found to work
well or that you wish you'd done differently? How and who should
we approach in the media? Any pertinent videos we should watch or blog
    posts we should read?

Also, if you have a spare 5 minutes please check out the staging site, we'd
    love your feedback.

    Thanks in advance,
    Dan

p.s. We're currently working on a new landing page and a super snazzy video
(thanks to the guys @ smallwerld.com and xyzstudios.com) that does a better
    job of selling our app.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm not saying going to the US is bad
for startups, or bad for "us" being startup community. It's obviously
good and the cross pacific knowledge transfer going on now is fantastic.
The goodbarry guys did take a risk and it did pay off for them and I
don't begrudge them that or expect anything from them, or any other
company that has succeeded. That wasn't what I was trying to say.
My point was only that the NSW government is about taking NSW tax
payers money and turning it into benefit for those living here,
employing people here and paying tax here. So even though I know you
guys will be there for me if I decide to go over, and I appreciate
that, I don't expect the Australian government to be helping me. Just
doesn't seem to make sense. I would have expected them to be enticing
    entrepreneurs to come to Australia.

Re. the NSW Government support of Startup House:

For the naysayers debating the merits of having a soft landing for
Australians in the U.S. I would argue that you should spend two weeks
in the valley and then determine the value or otherwise of Startup
House for the Aussie economy. Take my scenario:
    - U.S. incorporated company
    - Funded in the U.S.
    - Majority of resources in Australia (and working at Fishburners.org)

    Outcome for Australia:
    - $$ flowing into our economy
    - IP and best practices being shared from U.S. to Australia
    - Another link in the bridge between Silicon Valley and Australia

The support afforded me by the entrepreneurs behind Startuphouse and
their extended network is, and will be key to the success of my
    business.

The spirit of giving and collegiality that is exuded by the San Fran
based Aussies is something that we need to catch up on locally and I
would suggest that you owe it to yourself to get over there and
    experience it first hand.

I think that this support is one of the best things NSW government
could do, although I would argue it should be done at a federal
    level.

    Hey Avis,

    Thanks for your comment.

I get that question a lot.  Our goal initially is to attract leaders
that are already sharing what they are trading & investing, so the
concept of allowing others to see this information isnt new to them.
I believe the 'social' paradigm shift now reaching investing and more
people are already comfortable sharing this information and see the
value in sharing, and they're discovering that they won't lose their
edge by doing so, and i believe this is trend will continue.

Currently we don't allow leaders to reveal their strategy, just what
they bought or sold.  They can, however, communicate to followers why
they bought or sold something.  We built the Trade Notes feature based
on feedback from leaders. We're working on other features to allow
leaders to better control who can follow them (who they share with),
but i think this is a feature and not a change of concept.

    Cheers
