I taught mathematics in California State Universities and Community
Colleges and before that I was a substitute High School and sometimes
Middle School teacher in California, and in all places there was a
major deterioration in student motivation, behavior, respect for
teachers, respect for Knowledge, respect for Ethics, compared to my
experiences in California when I grew up.
I suspect that the British situation which you mention (with a very
interesting reference link) is similar and that what is actually
happening is that physics is being hardest hit by the general decline
in Knowledge and Ethics because physics has the most prerequisites in
Knowledge in the sense of requiring both mathematics and chemistry.
Mathematicians just have to know mathematics (though to know it very
well is another story). Also, friends and acquainces of mine who've
taught point out that California students tend to lack "patience" and
"interest" when they take physics courses, which seems to mean that
it's an unfamiliar language to them since they've ignored too many of
its prerequisites.
At the risk of seeming to be an "old-timer" or an alarmist, I think
that we're very close to the situation before Ancient Rome fell. None
of the Presidential candidates in the last 10 or so U.S.A. elections
came from physical science, engineering, mathematics, or even
psychology or theoretical sociology. "Law" appears to be their main
profession, and has been an almost total failure in preparing them to
make decisions for either the Individual or the Plurality once they
leave the Courtroom. Similar remarks hold for the Congress (Senate and
House of Representatives) and Governors, etc.

I should also have mentioned philosophy - can you imagine a
Presidential or Congressional/Parliamentary candidate who is a
philosopher? He/she would so endanger the "system" and the
Bureaucrats that we'd probably see a reenactment of Socrates' forced
death by taking hemlock in Ancient Athens. Philosophers are usually
quite familiar with Materialism versus Nonmaterialism, and with BS
versus reality or ideals. Those are opposite qualities from those of
Bureaucracies.

Several of your comments are very accurate in my opinion, although the
mosques and "own religion" are unlikely to be reasons for the "Fall of
Rome" scenario. The lack of Religious tolerance among the immigrants
to which you refer is, however, extremely high, and the mosques in many
Islamist or pro-Islamist nations are often used for non-Religious
purposes including inciting Violence.
Immigrants who riot or commit crimes for "religious" reasons, and
immigrants who don't seek jobs, and immigrants who don't learn the main
language of their host nation, and immigrants who don't interact with
