This should be a well-attended event: http://www.meetup.com/Bay-Area-Scala-Enthusiasts/events/43944352/

If your company is interested in hosting this BASE event, please contact me at msl...@micronauticsresearch.com

I've received a couple of offers to host this event from companies in San Francisco. However, the BASE geographical territory changed in December 2011. BASE now covers the peninsula and SJ, etc. Scala for Startups handles SF.

That means we are still looking for a host for this event. If you work for a company with a meeting space that can hold up to 100 people, located on the peninsula or SJ, please contact me.

But, since Mike coordinates for both BASE and SfS, we're eagerly welcoming the SF locations as we have several important topics coming up still in need of hosts, such as the AKKA meetup!  Feel free, in an appreciated way, to add your large, modern office space with coffee makers, beer kegs, etc., to the list, and a large mob of friendly scalaists will come to check it out, with a non-negative probability that some may even like it to stay! :)

A+

We thought we might have a venue in Palo Alto for the Play 2.0 meetup, but it fell through. The meetup may need to be canceled unless a company comes forward and offers to host. If your company has a room large enough for up to 100 people, and is located on the peninsula or SJ, please contact me ASAP at mslinn@micronauticsresearch.com

Thank you,

I haven’t been paying attention, but isn’t LinkedIn hosting this group?

Yes, LinkedIn hosts many meetings, and is a first-class facility with
unparalleled resources, but I wanted to grow the community by hosting at
different venues. For example, last month was at EBay. This approach
works really well in SF, but is proving harder in the peninsula. A happy
ending would make it all worthwhile.

The regular scala BASE mtg is (apparently) still on the books for March 12th at LinkedIn....but we couldn't get the larger room we normally use, it's set for a smaller room that tops out at 65. I'll check if we can get moved to the larger room...but likely there's something else there.

Dhananjay,

It is a comfort to know LinkedIn is available if we need it. I very much
appreciate it! If we don't get this figured out by midweek, perhaps we
should fall back to LinkedIn.

Someone from Walmart is looking into the possibility of hosting this
meetup (BTW, they have an enormous facility, but I was completely
unaware of it). As I said, I would very much like to grow the community.
Often growth is uncomfortable, and I am willing to endure some
discomfort ... made easier with everyone's support, of course!

Are there any other potential hosts lurking who would like to come forward?

Best,

Mike

86 people are currently registered. That probably translates to 65
actual attendees.
