I was going to leave this blank. I am not comfortable comparing
keepers because a lot of the putative "best" ones I see don't get
tested that often. I don't know if Friedel is or isn't in a league
with Lloris or Neuer, but given how often he's tested he's looked
great when I've watched him.

Perfectly reasonable opinion, IMO. He had a great season, despite
being a degenerate.

I was actually being facetious noting the usual reaction of
anglophobes (who are as prevalent as anglophiles) to any praise of
anglo players. I have always maintained that Friedel is a total stud,
and put him up there with that usual Czechs, Bufoons, and Boxes in the
past. But I dont know if this is the season to put in up there. Why
wasn't he in the WC squad, btw?

Yeah I saw that and found it amusing. Best LB in the world? I dont
know, just France has three who could claim to be better.

Do you watch Turkish league matches, or is this based on his WC
performances?

I vote exactly the same but have Sneijder as overall best as he
delivered in the World Cup, Messi didn't.

*Try to remember gang, that Dwight has a reputation for eccentricity to
maintain. But, I think all four of my midfielder choices have had great
years--in completely different ways and under very different
circumstances. And, I think the Donovan goal against Algeria was the
goal of the year--from the save by Howard, his perfect pass, Donovan's
perfect pass to Altidore, Jozy's perfect center to Dempsey, the Bolhi
point-blank save from Dempsey and the Donovan follow-up. It still gives
me one of those Chris Matthews thingy's up and down my leg everytime I
think about it.
