You are right: they call it Socialist National Health Care to frighten
the uninformed into supporting big-money private insurance companies
in their decades-old rip off of the American people. They label it
socialism because they know that most people have little knowledge of
what socialism is, only that it's bad. So associating a national
healthcare program that employs private healthcare suppliers with the
dreaded socialism tricks the average working stiffs into opposing such
a program, even though they need it badly. It's a classic false
propaganda ploy: deceit by association.
Of course, the proposed public plan bears no resemblance to socialism;
it is merely a system of safely pooling the money to be used for
healthcare. The government will not be the owner of the clinics, the
hospitals, or the equipment. The doctors, technicians, and nurses
will not be working for the government. Healthcare will be
administered by private individuals just as always. The only
difference will be the party holding the pooled money and distributing
the funds as needed will be public officials and not insurance company
executives.
And there is the problem. The money shufflers in big business, the
insurance companies, want to continue having control over the billions
of dollars being set aside for healthcare. They skim off enormous
profits, not only in fees and expenses, but also in using that money
while its not needed for actual healthcare services. They can invest
that money, even gamble it all away if they get the urge, as that
monstrous insurance company AIG did recently. They can use the money
for lavish jaunts, generous salaries and bonuses, catered parties and
dinners, and any number of "business-related" adventures.
If the government takes the money under its wing until it's needed,
the insurance companies will have to look for other sources; those
well-paid executives might even be forced to go to work somewhere. So
they are willing to slip some of the money to anyone, any party who
can disrupt and destroy any chance of a public plan where the money
will be put under the government's care rather than left to the lust
of the private executives and money managers.

This is utter BS. There are many people out there below the poverty
line who will simply not have the wherewithal to *purchase* anything
medical, and in some cases not even adequate food or housing. This is
just another plan by the politicians in BIG INSURANCE's back pocket

No kidding - they've condemned people to suffering, misery and death
for decades. In fact, they did it me - when as a child I was covered
under my Dad's Blue Cross insurance, and I got some ongoing treatment
and tests for frequent severe headaches, at one point they cutoff
benefits for both treatment and underlying cause. I continued to
suffer, my Dad got poorer, and if I had had cancer or some other
serious problem, my possible death would have been on their hands too.
Palin, Grassley, and the rest of them are arrogant, lying bastards.
They're damn lucky they don't have to worry about going broke if they
get a migraine. Screw 'em.

It's all about the profit motive. Healthcare isn't so big of an issue
here in Canada; it's actually quite remarkable as to what is covered.
But if you get injured on the job trying to get Workmen's Compensation
(a type of insurance) for wages lost during the recovery time (assuming
you don't pay into short- or long-term disability)can be a real pain in
the ass. They are all a bunch of greedy bastiches and the insurance
companies could stand with undergoing a major overhaul. If anyone pays
into anything they should reap the benefits of what they have essential
bought and paid for with their money or the employer's money.
