Some of you will be distressed to learn that I survived my first
round of the new chemo today. My January remission went into
remission and the kidney disease came back stronger than ever.
My auto-immune system must be as ornery as I am and it's my poor
kidneys that are being attacked.

Since the CellCept and prednisone didn't work we decided on a
cycle of Rituximab. There was a very small chance that it could
have caused a fatal allergic reaction but now that I'm done
with the first one I'm in no danger going forward. Hopefully
this will be the cure.

I'm pretty pooped right now and I'll take a rest tomorrow but
the plans are now to go fishing, camping and canoeing until I
have to report back to the lab.

Thanks, Dan. There's not much I can do about being a Cardinal fan,
you cannot grow up where I did and not be a Cardinal fan. I might
have to dump the Budweiser though. If InBev succeeds in their hostile
takeover of the brewery no Anheuser-Busch product will ever knowingly
pass my lips again. If I were to drink beer from "The Brewery" (in
St. Louis the Anheuser-Busch brewery is simply "The Brewery") knowing
it was owned by Belgians, and foreign Belgians at that !! my German-
American ancestors would spin in their graves so hard the Gateway Arch
would topple into the Mississippi.

Holy crap, check a map of the solar system Mr. F., notice you aren't at the
center. Do you seriously believe that because some folks hold political
views that differ from yours and perhaps dislike the manner in which you
express yourself at times that they would wish for your death? Jeez, dial
it back to mild egomania before you pull a muscle.

Good luck with the treatment you prickly self-obsessed blowhard.

I've had quite a few friends, acquaintances and relatives with
auto-immune illnesses varying from skin rashes to allergies to
rheumatoid arthritis to lupus. In all but the skin rash case they
received some to great benefit from augmenting their biochemical
treatment with acupuncture. In the case of the allergies and the
arthritis they were able to stop taking shots and drugs entirely and
relied on a monthly perforating as the only treatment with the result of
complete remission of the allergies and joint pain only after strenuous,
physical activity in the arthritis case.

Give acupuncture serious consideration along with the Rituximab. I was
skeptical at first but saw a woman go from weeks of agony and sneezing
in the spring and fall to flower arranging and rolling in piles of
leaves. It was covered on her health insurance, too!

Thanks Neil, and thanks to all for the good vibes.

The first round took over 7 hours but that was only because
they have to go slow with the first one until they find out
it won't kill you. From now on I should be in and out of chemo
in less than 4 hours. The day after will never be one of my
better days, but other than that you're absolutely right, not
much of an inconvenience at all ... if it works.

Ditto. No one wishes the worst for Ken in that regard. But, I find the
timing of this post a bit manipulative. It reminds me quite a bit of

Sorry to hear about your remission.
Last year this time I was in the depths of Crohn's disease, had lost 60 lbs.
in a short time.
Lucky for me I had great health care and today I'm doing very well.
I wish you the same good fortune.

Heh. I was gonna say. How'd a guy who does his best to antagonize
everyone he can and then killfiles all the folks he deems "ankle
biters" because they jump on his hook be deemed as someone "embracing
the chaos"? And, say, how does it feel to confused with Ken?

Yeah, credit where credit's due, I lifted that one from Neil.
I don't really know from where Neil lifted it. ;-)

As for rants one doesn't want to read, that's what killfiles

Honetly Rick, have you read what Ken has typed the last few days alone? Do
you care that he hurt a vulnerable lady's feeling with a casual cruelty that
I find frankly appalling. And no I'm not talking about myself here, I have
no reason to defend her, it just is. That's just one very recent example.
Mike was correct in that Ken has a "malicious bent" so when he turns around
the next day and seeking more healing vibes, it just hit me the wrong way. I
knew I'd get some flak for speaking up. Anyway think about it, this weekend,
Ken is going "fly fishing, canoeing and camping." Sounds like he's doing all
right after all. Probably in no more pain or worry than many of us reading
this newsgroup today. One of my best friends from college is fighting for
her life. She turned 40 on July 9th (date of the final Dead show as she
liked to point out), her breast cancer has spread into her brain. It's
inoperable, okay. A group of us were all to get together at the Jersey shore
this summer. At the same time, my sister's best friend who I love a lot is
in a fight for her from an aggressive breast cancer. These two gals do
nothing but try and bring joy to people's lives. Touching, indeed.

Oh, fer fuck's sake. This is such unmitigated bullshit, *clearly* an
attempt to push up the thread count to exceed the over/under Mark set.
He fucking must have been filming the damn signals because its clear

Talk about absurd, girlfriend. It's not like anyone is going to take
your word for it anyway. You claim the same crap about yourself, and
yet you're in here daily playing ScaryCarrie. Now, it's quite sad that
anyone's friend would be sick, and I sure as hell don't wish cancer even
on my worst on enemies, but get some fucking perspective, would ya? Ken
posts here daily. Like him or not (and I think he's a mentally ill twit
myself), it's not uncommon for people to wish another group member well
in the fight with a given illness. It's just courtesy. Yet here you
are, looking for a way to gather sympathy in your battle against Ken,
simply because you can't handle that people agree with him about YOU.
Get a grip. I can't even believe what you wrote. Once again, it's all
about you. The world revolves around Carrie. Get it? Well, no, you

Have to say something, cause I feel it strongly.
One LAST post, then, no matter what,
I'm outta here for a needed break.
Carrie is the only person to speak up
truly for me in this thread. None of my
"friends" did. And that says something about
her that is lost on you...She and Dave have it right.
I tried to leave on the high road and wish KF well anyway.
But do I think he deserves it? HELL no.
He lied, scathingly even for him, and yes it hurt me deeply.
And that was nothing compared to what he said about DK's mom.

It depends on the fly rod, of course. I use 6 wts and 7 wts
for smallies up there. Here at home I can even get away with
a 5 wt, but the only way I'll ever see a 5 lb. smallie here
in central Illinois is if you send me a photo. ;-) Yeah, I

Too bad you decided against the "high road" while you were

impugning mine, you should expect that your right to impugn

Ken that's pretty disingenuous even for you. Sort of like 'the
meaning of the word 'is' is'. You asked a question about something of
his compared to something of his mom's; ok, you didn't direct any
epithets to his mom per se, but the context of your entire exchange
was so far beneath contempt it came out the other side of contempt, so
don't try to spin it otherwise by saying you never said a word about
her.

There's 15 words in that post. (and thanks to the ankle biter
for doing the archive work.) Find one, just one fucking word
out of the 15, that is not addressed to and about Dave Kelly.

Sorry Ken, but that simply is not true. The post you made has been quoted
twice in this thread. How you can construe using the words, "your mother"
in reference to Dave's mom as not saying a word about her is deranged
thinking. Further, your tweak of Dave in the post, in context, relied on
her having had a mastectomy. You used Dave's mother's medical condition to
mock Dave. You can try to twist around it, you can deny, you can bluster
and bullshit, but I will bet that there is not one person besides you on
this newsgroup that will not see it as I have described it and interpreted
it.

> Thin skins don't last long around here, Mary. Take a break, put

Ah yes ... the old "suit of armor" routine. Why should Mary need to don a
thicker skin just to be in the newsgroup? Why, instead, don't you pull back
from some of the vicious, unpleasant bile that you spew here from time to
time? The newsgroup would be a more pleasant place, and we all might enjoy
interacting with you a whole lot more than we do now.

Richard is of course correct.

This Ken person's first resort when criticized in this group is to
immediately go after someone's health, because its real life and very
personal. Kelly's example is plain as day. Just the other day Dingleberry
tried the same thing on me; claiming I was "sick and weakly", among other
things. He was obviously attempting to really bum me out in a real life way
with that shot. Now where he got that idea I'll never know. But if I was
sick and weakly, that would have been a seriously low blow. That sort of
insult goes well beyond any reasonable standard of behavior, here or
anywhere else. He does it because it can really hurt; its not like calling
someone Dingleberry or clown or dimwit.

Its really odd considering that this Ken person is so ill himself. Normally
people who are ill are sensitive to the health concerns of others. I know
that when I was actually sick and weakly several years ago what got me all
hopped up was the lack of treatment or plain old bad treatment that other
sick people in this country had to endure. Yet this Ken person, in the
throes of a serious illness, doesn't take that approach or take an approach
of ignoring the subject altogether; he strikes out at others he knows or
incorrectly assumes are also ill with shots about their real or imagined
condition. He's ill himself, but he uses the illnesses of others as a
weapon against them. I can't think of anything more uncool.

He is the only person I have ever read on this group that stoops to such a
level. He's fortunate that's the case, as I doubt he would feel very good
if he were to sit down here one morning and find posts making fun of his
medical condition or of the medical condition of a loved one. There's
plenty of well known ammo available in that area for posters to use in his
case and others; but as far as I know no one but him as ever used such
garbage as a weapon.

And there can be no doubt about this: the condition of people who are
seriously ill is not helped by raging anger or leveling low blows at other
sick people. An upbeat outlook free from hate, rage and cruelty has been
proven to be helpful towards a quick recovery.

Well, I guess. I should have added that he doesn't just stick to someone's
health, he'll use anything that he believes will really hurt someone in
their real life. That's the Mary example; he knew she was upset about the
Joe/Rupert thing and was sensitive to it, so he hurled that sling as soon as
he could, believing she would actually be hurt in her real life; which she
was, and now he's happy about it.

Its one thing for a bunch of people to bash each other with common Usenet
insults or even cutting remarks that might sting for a minute or two. Most
of us do or have done that, and sometimes it can be fun. Its another thing
altogether to look for that one thing that can really ruin someone's day, or
even make them feel like shit for a longer time.

Its a rare RMGD poster who does that sort of thing intentionally and
repeatedly, a rarer thing still to never apologize for it, and as far as I
can recall, its only a Ken thing to actually be proud of it.

I used to think he was an idiot, then I thought he was despicable, now I
just feel sorry for him. He's quite the sad case.

In other words, you took the 15 word test and failing to
find a single word I said about Kelly's mom you choose to
perpetuate the lie anyway.

I'm sorry to say I am not surprised.

LOL !! You're a piece of work Toad. I don't get all whiny and
outraged when folks use the manboobs putdown to make fun of
myself when I've been on prednisone for 6 months. Such garbage
should be beneath contempt but in this context it obviously is
not. So be it. What you pricks really, really hate is not the
weapons I use, you assholes use the same weapons all the time,
no, what you really, really hate is that I'm better at it than
you are. And that's a bitter pill to swallow, eh Toad ?

You're not laughing Ken. Stop trying to show how all this rolls off your
back; it doesn't.

Liar.

This is so easily refuted. One look back at the Russert Redux thread will
prove that you didn't mention that you were on Prednisone until after I made
the manboob remark. I wouldn't have made the remark if I had known. And
as you already know, I commented after you first mentioned it that thought
the drug might be causing your unpleasant behavior here and even pledged not
to use it against you after you mentioned it.

Here's the exact exchange as it occurred, including your first mention of
Prednisone. Anyone can Google it.

Me: >> You really are a basketcase full of jello, aren't you?

Ken: > I think the phrase you're looking for is "fucked up as a soup
sandwich".

Me: >> Sorta like those manboobs.

Ken: > LOL ! Well, I'm workin' on it. Down to 222 lbs. as of this morning.
I've lost right at 20 lbs. since I quit taking the prednisone.

Me: Unlike myself, we all know that Ken is suffering from a debilitating
physical illness and is undergoing unpleasant treatments. Prednisone,
beseides causing massive weight gain, can also cause a roid-rage type
syndrome, which may what we're witnessing with his behavior here. Rather
than attack him on that front, I'll have some sympathy on the poor guy and
let this exchange pass into the ether

> Such garbage
> should be beneath contempt but in this context it obviously is
> not. So be it.

You're a liar as everyone can see. Certainly a manboob remark is in the
category of common Usenet insult. A big tough character like you with such
thick skin should be able to handle something like that without lying about
that exchange. I had no idea you were on Prednisone until you chose to
mention it; after I made the manboob remark. Now you're lying in an
effort to portray me as you portray yourself here. No dice.

Nope. I don't aspire to using bigger and more damaging weapons. I gather
that that's a goal of yours and that the normal people here are impressed by
it. We're not.

Glad my post hit so close to home.

Indeed. Not only did he blatantly lie about the manboob/Prednisone exchange
(weird since it can so easily be disproven) he actually thinks we're all
here to try to cause as much harm as we can to each other.

He truly is a twisted individual.

You're a fucking joke Ken..If you think that anybody here is jealous
of you, you're deranged

I'm curious, on one hand you think that we're all a bunch of pricks,
whose opinions you don't care about yet on the other hand you come
looking for good vibes and sympathy when you have personal crisises
like your health issues or the loss of your daughter

So why bother sharing this information with people who you claim not
to give a shit about? It seems pretty schizophrenic to say the least

I think Toad nailed. You're a sad, pathetic little man who gets his
jollies belittling people to make yourself feel better. I suspect that
you're bitter about the lot that life dealt you and that as a result
you want everybody else to feel as hopeless as you do.

Obviously the reason that you know that I am a "mean spirited. foul
tempered antagonist" is because you are so familiar with those traits
in yourself

You remind me of the last line of "Positively 4th St" I have no doubt
that I am not alone in that sentiment

Sorry Ken,
Good luck with this
Sounds like you are fighting a helluva battle, and putting a good face
on it.
But Scot, being just the latest ringingly great example, and so many
others seem to be beating you at every turn here, and rightly so!
You sometimes come off like the Dick Cheney of Rmgd, at least vibe
wise.
Say hi to Barlow, btw..
To bring up some furthur Dylan lyrics?
"Take care of yourself and get pleny of rest."
Then go fishin', already!!!

I lost weight during that time, just my $.02.

Your German ancestors are already spinning in their graves that you
drink Budweiser and call it beer. The wouldn't care if the brewery
were owned by Belgians.
