Your infatuation is noted.
I'm fine. Thanks for asking. But after seeing the real Gunner it was
pretty disappointing. I was expecting someone like Rambo but older. Not
some old fucked up putz. He's a sad case. No wonder he has to make up so
many stories. The truth is hard to take.

Here is the latest picture of my 60 year old self!
Still looking Bristol. Those side shelf lockers look great. Good
idea.
Keep at it !!
P.Cmdr. Brian Lawson,
LMYC
ps.. try to get the pole stowed off the deck if you can. Stowed that
way it can get set down loose and be gone overboard, and a bitch to
step on too, in the dark or weather. Look around at other's ideas for
it. One possibility is on the upper rail lines or stanchions, so it's
plain to see that it can't be loose if it's up in place. Doesn't
"look" as nice, but it's out of the way providing more "foot-room".
pps....were all the sailing shots taken at the same time? I can only
see the port side design in one of the shots.
Actually, those pix were taken what,,,a year or so ago now?? I hope
Gunner is looking a bit closer to normal by now.
But they do make him look at lot closer to a mere mortal than he
did/does in person. A few more years back, somewhere S.E of LA, we
spent a few hours chatting over coffee. He was a kinda scary dude in
the flesh, but that first impression fades quickly, and he is a really
surprising person. I'd be hard put to name anyone else here on RCM
that's more likely to have so few shirts in the cupboard while still
happy and willing to give you the one he's wearing!!
Gunner's a good guy in my books. Had lotsa hard knocks compared to my
own personal good fortune. Maybe just a leeettle bit too conservative
for me, but hey....don't we all feel we're just the most wonderful
folks too ?!?
Take care.
Brian Lawson,
Bothwell, Ontario.
Kind words, Brian.
Thankee kindly.
Getting used to any new boat involves stubbing toes a few times.
After a while, your toes know!
But it does take up a lot of deck space where it is.
Larry and Lynn Pardey have a rather unique setup that I've been thinking
about borrowing. The boat end of the pole is attached to a slide on a track
on the mast. The pole is "stowed" vertically and all you do to launch it is
hook the outboard end to the jib sheet and unlock the slide. The inboard end of
the pole then slides down to horizontal, and your are done.
Hoist it back up with the pole topping lift, and clip the free.
It can either go on the mast, or to a clip on top of a stanchion.
The beauty of their system is that you never have to deal with the full weight
of the pole (theirs is wood!), nor is the pole ever completely loose.
Another possibility (that I've already considered and declined) it clip it under
the boom. I've seen a couple done that way, but it's too far from where it is
used. Takes crew to pass it back and forth.
Once we hit the coast I'm going to relocate it.
Add the track up the front for the job pole and another track up the back side
for a storm jib.
And, I have finally decided to remove the roller furler in favor of hank ons.
It took a lot of consideration, but that's what I want to do.
We are not an diesel powered motor sailer. We are a sailing vessel with an
outboard motor. As such we need to be able to sail as well as possible.
No sailing boat can point well with a partially rolled jib.
The pics were taken here at Lake Texoma.
My bud (Catalina 27) and I were racing home under power. 5 or 6 miles and we
hadn't changed position by as much as a foot. But my boat hasn't had her bottom
cleaned in a while and his was just done.
He took those pics with his phone.
I didn't post the one with the front half of the boat out of the water jumping
a big power boats wake.
Where is LMYC?

Here's a write-up
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.crafts.metalworking/msg/7ea5a4fb45355771
from a respected poster describing a, uh, somewhat different
impression of gummer based on a little more than coffee. Perhaps if
all the people gummer owes were willing to accept used shirts as
payment, then maybe your opinion would make a little more sense to me.
>Gunner's a good guy in my books. Had lotsa hard knocks compared to my

Hard knocks don't turn "good guys" into deadbeats. I know people
who've traveled a rougher road than gummer, but it didn't cause them
to fantasize about hanging half the population.
>Maybe just a leeettle bit too conservative for me
What, you only wish that a few thousand were killed instead of a few
tens or hundreds of thousands? Surely you're not going to say that you
don't wish anyone at all to die, because that would be a little hard
to reconcile with the tone of your post. Oh wait, you're going to say
that all the "culling" talk is just hyperbole that you don't believe?
> but hey....don't we all feel we're just the most wonderful

There's a big difference between being less than perfectly wonderful,
and being a pathological liar like gummer.
Wayne
I see a number of young men every day in the gym where I work out that
look pretty intimidating. After seeing Gummer in the flesh, and I
understand those photos were taken nearly a year ago, I don't put him in
that category. I see an elderly guy with major health problems. I don't
know what he was in the past but I do know he's never going to be the
same from here on. Personally, I wouldn't cross the street to say
anything to the guy let alone take a trip to Taft. But he's certainly
not anyone I would fear. That's for sure. What is funny is that you guys
who don't seem to really know the guy sure have a lot of respect for him
based on what, what he types? You know nothing about the rest of us.
Maybe some other folks are a lot more to contend with than an old man
who has already had heart surgery and a stroke or two. Seems likely to me.

LaSalle Mariner's Yacht Club, held at 75 Members with boats. Sail

Located on the Detroit River about 7 miles below Windsor, Ontario,
half-way between the foot of Lake St. Clair and the west end of Lake
Erie.
N 42 13 38

Great bunch of Members, and some pretty good sailors. Race PHRF
mostly, although there are some MORC boats and a number of One Design
campaigners. Drop in if you ever get up this way.
There isn't one. I've never posted any photos on the internet for people
to see. I have no idea how to do it either. If someone were to instruct
me how to do it I just might. At least that would put to rest the stupid
notions that people like Lib Loo have that I am a small guy pretending
to be big. I guess I could pose for a few pictures holding firearms if
there was enough demand for it. Yea or nay?

I'm thinking that statement is bull.

I've never met the man. He seems to gather a range of opinion. Most recently there was a
post from a gent I've actually met that testified that Gunner is an okay guy. I'll go
with that for now.

Us or you? I can't stand TMT and Cliff but I don't have the hard on for those two like
you have for Gunner. I think you are a hell of a lot more obsessed with your ideology

It was working fine for you too until your address changed. HINT TO WES.

We have a couple of the Pardey's DVDs and several of Lynn's books.
I'm at N 33.83205 and W -96.5711 and you can see my boat on the satellite
view on Google maps! (if you know where to look)
Only 9 degrees north of here? That surprised me until I looked it up.
Heck, that's only a little north east of Texarkana...
Are you iced in up there?
I raced quite a bit years back, all PRHF.
I finished (every year) sixth of 24.
Never any better, nor worse...
I had the smallest boat in the fleet back then, A Capri 18.
PHRF of 296, iirc.
I could beat the leaders by finishing before they finished their
celebration six pack.
Racing was fun, but some people turn into jerks just because they
are racing. Kinda takes the fun out of having fun.
I'm not. I talk to people where I work out all the time. I know you are
playing stupid, which is easy for you, but the point is I know what
someone that can take care of himself looks like. They don't look like
Gunner. He's a broken down old man. I'm an old man too, just not all
broken down like him.

That's my point. You ain't the same after major heart surgery,
especially if you've had a couple of strokes to boot.

If he was what he pretends to be that may be but we all know he's into
telling tall tales about himself. And he's not the only person who could
put the hurt on you. But clearly you aren't the wise ass in person you
are over the internet or you would undoubtedly have been severely beaten
many times by now.

Well, I could make up a bunch of macho stories like Gunner too if you
like? If that is what you need to respect someone, to be bullshitted
repeatedly? I can do that just like he does. I can't imagine why though.

The problem you have is with your reading. I never told anyone anything
about myself that is not the truth. I'm not ten feet tall, just about
6'2" and I am not bulletproof. Although I do put in a lot of time
cycling and working out. I've taken martial arts throughout my life. I'm
not put off by bullshit from people like Gunner. I don't bullshit, don't
need to. I'm just real. I don't make things up and I don't pretend I'm
things I'm not. You wouldn't believe it but most people like me, and
nobody wants to try to kick my ass. But being my size is good for one
thing at least. Not very people want to try me. I have no worries
whatsoever that a dip shit like Gunner will ever cross my path. He's
just a flaky guy who tells a lot of lies. You seem to like that type. To
each his own. Liars and old men seem to turn you on. You're weird, you
know that?
Hawke
I would say, you have to do it.
I want to look at least that good at 55.

Whatever you like. It doesn't matter if you look half your age or
double, or if you're a triathlon winner or a quad, obviously none of
it could make gummy one iota less of a broke-down broke-ass phony.
Anecdote - some idiot once accused me of being afraid to climb my wind
turbine tower. It was bizarre, especially since I'd obviously gone to
serious trouble to eliminate the need for any climbing at all. But
since I happened to have a photo of the one time I did climb it, I
posted it. Then he said that I wasn't using the proper safety gear

my coat. Call the whole thing my own personal "birther" moment. :-)

Dayum! My scar is about 2/3 that long. And it was sutured from the inside
with no external stitches to be removed. No staples. And my leg was done

This episode raises disturbing questions about scientific standards,
at least in highly political areas such as global warming. Still,
it's remarkable to see how quickly corrective information can now
spread. After years of ignored freedom-of-information requests and
stonewalling, all it took was disclosure to change the debate. Even
the most influential scientists must prove their case in the court
of public opiniona court that, thanks to the Web, is one where
eventually all views get a hearing. --Gordon Crovitz, WSJ 12/9/09

You'll notice that the guys spouting the shit are all right wingers.
Need I say any more? Their problem is that they bullshit so much they
think everyone else does too. The thing is I don't. Everything I have
said is true. But you're right, even if I show them that I'm telling the
truth it won't make any difference. What they will do is when you prove
them wrong they always do the same thing, change the subject, or move
the goalposts.
Hawke
I think you're right. I would like to put a few pictures on one of those
photo websites for people to look at. But like I said, I don't know how
you do that. Do you? If you do I'd appreciate it if you could let me
know it's done so I can shut some people with very big mouths up once
and for all. Thanks.
Hawke
I see your point. Why bother doing anything because some dumb asses want
you to. If they want proof that what I said is true they can hold their
breath until they get it. They can cram it. Yeah, you're right, fuck them.

Take it from Brian and me, Gunner doesn't look anything like that in
person. Hey, Gunner. You looked a hell of a lot better than my dad did
a few days after surgery. He was still gray, no color in his skin
anywhere on his body. And you were standing up. He couldn't do that
for over a week. I sure can't wait to see Parakeet's pics.
Nothing, and that's what I got.
See, I'm easy after all.
LOL
Of all of these shits, I'm one of the few that has seen Gunner in person.
He needs work, but isn't exceptional otherwise. His health issues have
debilitated him for years, not just recently.
He simply didn't take proper care of his temple and it's now failing him.
There certainly isn't anything remotely intimidating about him. Not to a
normal person anyway.
Larry's just a pantywaiste.

Though if he wants to play...open hand, cold steel, blue steel, his

I don't recall if he ever mentioned being a member of the heart surgery
club or not. It seems like about half the people in this group have had
heart surgery and the rest are diabetics. I can't help but wonder how
many of them have walkers. Is it a rule that metalworkers are required
to be old and unfit?
Hawke
I can't. They're all dead. I used to have over thirty birds but now they
are no longer living. I do miss the little critters though. FYI a
chickenhawk is someone who advocates war but avoids fighting in them.
That's not me. But it does include a lot of republicans.
Hawke
Thanks.

You're quite right, of course. As someone who actually has done martial
arts for a long time, I never go around attacking people. Having been
trained as a paralegal I know what would happen if I did, legally I
mean. But for someone my size, I'm about the size of an average NFL
linebacker, I know what happens when I hit someone. Things break, people
get hurt. I can't go around doing that. So I would never go after anyone
especially for something verbal. I'm really only allowed to defend
myself if someone physically attacks me. As you said, the chance of
Gummer coming here to find me and trying to lay a hand on me is zero.
Besides, would it be much of a fight with someone my size and in pretty
good shape taking on a guy with heart problems? I don't think so. And
last, I'm getting too old to be fighting anyone unless it was a life or
death situation, which I don't expect any time soon. Although, I did
just hear of a guy that got into a fight and he was 66 years old. So you
never know. But the last thing I am worried about is Gummer, the spinner
of tall tales. At this point he's about as non threatening a person as I
can think of. You know the type, all hat and no cattle.

I can't give you cites for this but I've heard that 50 years or so is the average age of
our little group. Our meaning use that do metalworking and not the trolls.
By fifty, there is a good chance there are members with serious health issues. Fifty used
to be advanced age not too long ago.
One can do everything right and still be victim to lousy genetics.

Someday I'd like to visit California again. There are a few on this list, including you
I'd like to meet. The see the USA tour is about 14 years away unless I play and also win
the lottery.
I don't think Hawke is going to take up my offer of arranging fare for him from Chino to
where you life. It is only 158 miles. I can offer gas money or bus fare myself w/o
asking for additional contributions. Return trip reimbursement is payable upon actually
returning ;)
For obvious legal reasons he needs to come to you.
Witness? Welcome to Fight Club. The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about
Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: you DO NOT talk about Fight Club!

No, but at least you should have some metalworking experience. And that
doesn't mean touching the dumbbells at the gym. Or the weights, either
............. snerk ............
Steve
It ain't the age, Wes, it's the mileage.
Steve
And FYI, that's not the definition of chickenhawk I was referring to, but
you knew that, right?
Steve
Oh...the winner gets his wallet. It costs money to run the backhoe so
Id make sure there was enough in his wallet when I fueled up and took
him out to the foothills in a plastic bag.
I'm 55, no heart disease, no diabetes (though it does run in my
family). I'm not in the best of shape, but I do still play ice hockey
occasionally.
I do own a pair of crutches and a couple of canes, from previous
injuries. There's a walker out in the garage, given to me by a friend
who was moving. I somehow think it's asking for trouble to get rid of
it.

Chino??????? The little bastard lives in Chino?????? Hell..I keep my
RV in Ontario..just a couple miles away. I play pool in several bars in
Chino when Im in the area.
Ray and Sandys on Central and hummmm Philladelphia
Or if he is old enough to drive..Woodies on Holt and Benson is where I
usually hang my hat...so to speak.
Id be most happy to meet him and put him on the barby.
Hell..Ive been down in Chino at least 4 times in the last 2 weeks.
Wont be back down until between Christmas and New Years..got a couple
jobs over in El Monte..but I would be happy to take a few minutes and
meet him. Lots of dark parking lots between Central and Mountain in
that neck of the woods..with available dumpsters. Depends on him now.
Since Im just a crippled old man...Id be happy to simply turn my back on
him and let him attack me.
A lot of truth in that...indeed there is.

LOL Yeah, it does seem that way a lot of the time. So far so good
here though. Recently had my third cold in about 20 years. And had a
nice bout of where-the-hell-did-I-leave-that-damned-headband-magnifier
yesterday when setting up to do a small lathe job.

About the only real danger with him is that when his subsistence
lifestyle turns into park-bench living, he could go postal. In that
event at least we won't have to listen to people saying "he was a
quiet guy...". :-) Heads-up to any library volunteers who might be
reading <snorf> - if some smelly dew-mouthed old fart refuses to wait
his turn to use the public computer, then just wait outside for the
cops to arrive.
Wayne
Later? Just how long does it take to sweep up a pile of hollow bones
and loose feathers? :)

Saw a TV program about gangs in San Bernardino county. Believe it was the
Vagos. They start by saying that San Bernardino county is the largest
county in the US, but only has a couple of million people. They say there
are a lot of unmarked graves out there.
One more ..................... yawn .....................
I like the beginning of the movie Casino. They warn to dig the hole first.

Old farts these days - no like when I was a boy. We used to
have us Real Geezers in those days. Now, they'll let anybody
with a little gray hair be an old fart.
He's a big boy so dig a wide hole. Forget the plastic, the worms deserve a
feast even if they die of 'tard poisoning. I don't understand why people
haven't had enough with all the far-left scum and hit the reset button.
NOT...he once said he's 350#. Gov. Cheese and 40s'll do that.
And, don't ever fuck with a guy that has only one gun...he'll know exactly
how it works.
Ayup...San Berdo county I think...think is slightly smaller than Kern
Co. where I live.
And yes..they both have quite a number of unmarked graves, by admission
of both Sheriffs departments. Some going back before California became
a state..a rather larger number since then, by all accounts. Id believe
that San Berdo has more, being much closer to the evil Big Cities.
Coyotes dig up folks a few times a year..though many are dug up, but so
far away from "civilization"..that no one notices and over a year or
three..the bones get eaten, reburied by varmints etc etc.
Now when you dig a hole to the max depth of most backhoes..about
8'...then fill it back in...few coyotes are able to dig to full depth.
And when one uses an abandoned oil well..of which there are any number
of them still no more than a steel plate over a 24" pipe several
thousand feet deep..you can slide quite a bit of meat down a hole that
big and deep. And you can even pour in some concrete..and no one will
ever know the difference once the meat has been covered over..even if
its way way down.
Keep your supplies at hand old friend..it will happen in less than 3
yrs..much less in fact. Shrug..the clock is ticking.

How do you know he's a big boy? Has he posted a pic yet? Link,

San Berdoo is biggest, Nye county, NV second. IIRC, Nye county has about
44,000 as of July 08. Mostly government property out there. Berdoo just
over two million.

Wheel weights have disappeared in this area, contractors pick-up all the
used ones everywhere I've been. $1/lb. for ingots on ebay is the only other
option I seem to have. Did you get my "gloat" e-mail? I want material for
100k pieces in stock.

Fosters is owned by VB if I recall, and is produced in Colorado? It's
Aussie in advertising only. Sorta like Outback Steakhouse. I guess
everyone there is used to genuine Aussies coming in and giving them shit
over the menu as nobody batted an eyelash when my wife took them to task.
Here's a funny 'quart can' story. Did a short stint in a contract shop
in the bay area in the late 70's. Only employee in the shop was the
inspector, everyone else 'quoted' work. In reality, this meant one could
negotiate a bit, but all work was done within the shop. One couldn't
push a price up too high or someone else would take it. So we're all
independent and able to come and go as we please. One day the owner gets
in a bunch of big-wigs from some local high tech company, and brings
them out into the shop. Which at 1pm is empty. He wanders out the back
door to find everyone eating lunch and almost all of us have the big can
of Fosters. Unfortunately for him, the big-wigs had followed him and
were not impressed to see his workforce drinking beer out back....
VERY shortly after that, he began hiring and phasing out the contractor
model.
I don't drink much anymore, but my two favorite beers are Tooheys Extra
Dry and Sapporo Premium Light. Haven't been able to find the former
here, yet...
Jon
Cant say that I did. Can you resend it?
Ill be off to get forklift propane and wheelweights today.
