This one might be aimed at me, or it might be tinged with a whiff of intent, although I only give one chance in four for Tarrant's thoughts being aimed
at me when he said this. During his "Who wants to be a Millionaire" TV show in March 1999, he said;
if you're watching the show jumping up and down screaming at the telly,
remember you could be here. You can either seek professional help or call us...
The background is as follows. In early March I'd sent a quantity of emails to Capital FM, the London radio station where Mr Tarrant has his breakfast
show. They were addressed to the email account which Mr Tarrant used to read emails posted on Capital's website. Capital objected to the quantity
of emails - in fact, they contacted the Metropolitan Police's Computer Crime unit, who, in turn, "felt my collar" by giving me a verbal warning
over the phone to cease this behaviour.
The emails contained the words which I had heard Mr Tarrant speak in early 1994, namely;
"You know this bloke? He says we're trying to kill him.
We should be done for attempted manslaughter".
At the time of writing (May 1999), the Police have not told me what aspect of the emails was "illegal", nor despite my repeated urging have they
questioned Mr Tarrant about his remarks from 1994.
Regarding the clip from Tarrant's show above. The Police spoke to me on the afternoon of Wednesday 10 March 1999. Tarrant's live show went out
that same evening. The Police have told me that after speaking to me they told Capital FM that they'd spoken to me regarding the emails. So Tarrant
would have known by the time of the show who'd sent the emails and why.... and it's quite possible that his remarks about "seeking professional help"
were aimed at me personally following my attempts to persuade him to own up to his 1994 remarks.

I have to admit that after the first or second one that I glanced, I lost
interest and
noticed that niether one had anything to do with Mazdas or Miatas.
It must have been missdirected or something by the "MI5" thing.
It looks as if this same bunch of articles is going out to six different
sites that don't seem to have anything in common.
I'm all for speaking your mind on off topic things as a way to keep it fresh
but I
just can't follow this.
Am I the only one here that noticed this?
I love my Miata and want to share in your knowledge of the mark.
By the way, anyone see the latest episode of "So You Think You Can
Dance"?(just kidding).
I am a "newby" to Maitas and this list so if I'm out of line here, please
tell me and I'll never mention it again.

Am I missing something here???
I don't get it..
What does this and the twenty six other articles have to do with Miatas?

Because the Miata is known in most of the world as the MI-5.
No, wait...

I take it you're new to Usenet?
For as long as I've been reading Usenet (25+ years) there have
always been net.kooks who post various rants to inappropriate
newsgroups. I don't find the paranoid government conspiracy
theories very interesting, but some of the crackpot science
stuff can be entertaining. I'll always have a soft spot for
Ludwig Plutonium (AKA Archimedes Plutonium)
http://www.iw.net/~a_plutonium/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notable_Usenet_personalities
http://www.killfile.org/dungeon/why/ap.html
I'm probably doing Ludwig/Archimedes a disservice, since he
usually limits his posts to sci newsgroups that are sort of
relevent to his theories.
For a general overview of net.kooks, this is a good page:
http://www.killfile.org/~tskirvin/faqs/legends/legends1.html
Besides the usual net.kooks, the other category of off-topic
posts are the trolls. These postings that are intentionally
off-topic and/or inflammatory (and aren't seriously believed by
the poster). Instead they are carefully calculated attempts to
start a long drawn out argument over as stupid, trivial, or
ridiculous a topic as possible:

This "list" is an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup. Anybody can
post anything, and there are always going to be people who post
inappropriate stuff. Most people just ingore them. Replying
to them in an attempt to get thme to stop is counterproductive,
though some of them (particulary trolls) will reply to comments
that are "on-topic" for the thread in question.
If you don't like skipping over such threads, just killfile
them.
Welcome to Usenet. :)

Nothing. You are mistaking an act of malice for an attempt to
communicate. Just ignore him.
I guess I AM missing something since none of you had anything to say about
my post.
Guess I'll just live with it like the rest of you.

Set a filter in your newsreader to kill all articles with a comma ( , )
in the Newsgroups header. This sort of crap is always crossposted to
multiple groups, with commas between the group names. Out of sight, out
of mind...

I already commented on the same question in another thread:

If it's really annoying you, learn to use your newsreaders
killfile feature.

Perhaps I can help. Google is a search engine that allows you
to find web pages that contain key words or phrases. When you
want to know what something is, searching for it on google is
always a good bet.

I should add that since you don't say what newsreader you're
using, it's not going to be possible to provide any detailed
help. I use slrn, and it uses a scorefile instead of a killfile:

The headers show Windows Mail. The help files will show how to
killfile someone.
