1. These awards cover television programs which were shown between
June 1, 2007, and May 31, 2008, in the United States. Network,
syndicated, and cable shows are all eligible.
Programs first shown in other countries are eligible if they were
aired in the United States during the eligibility year (for the first
time or with new episodes), whether they were originally shown in
their home countries during the current year or during a previous
year. Shows which were distributed on home video or online before
appearing on television are still eligible as long as they did air on
U.S. television during the eligibility year.
2. You can nominate up to THREE shows or people per category. You
don't have to vote in every category or submit the full number of
three nominees in each category, but please try to nominate in as many
categories as possible.
3. Please place your votes in the spaces provided. Your choices ARE
being ranked. Your top choice will get three points, your second
choice will get two points, and your third choice will get one point.
The spaces are labeled as "(3 points)," "(2 points)," and "(1 point)"
to make it easier to count the number of points received by each show
or person.
4. Nominations will be accepted until Thursday, July 10, 2008, at
10:00 p.m. U.S. Pacific time. The nominations will be announced soon
after that date.
5. Please email your ballots to Robert Licuria directly at this email
address only: robert...@hotmail.com
If that e-mail address has been obscured by your newsreader, that's
robertlicuria AT hotmail DOT com.
Please do not respond directly to this message, because then your
ballot will be sent to me (Joshua Kreitzer) instead of Robert. Robert
Licuria will be compiling the nominations, and I will be counting the
votes during the final voting round.
All ballots must be received by e-mail to be counted. You are welcome
to also post your ballot in the newsgroup if you want, but your ballot
will only be counted after Robert receives it via e-mail.
6. Please note that "SF" is defined for Ratty purposes as "speculative
fiction," which includes science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
7. Whether a show is considered comedy, drama, or SF, and whether a
performer is considered a lead, supporting, or guest performer, will
be determined based on the category in which the show or performer
receives the most votes. All of their votes will be counted towards
that category in which that person or show gained the most votes.
Therefore, please don't "double vote" a series in more than one genre;
for example, vote for a show as Best Drama Series or Best SF Series,
but not both.
8. In the episode categories, please give both the series name and
episode title. You can find episode titles on web sites such as
IMDb.com, Epguides.com, and TV.com.
9. If there are some categories that do not receive enough votes, then
the category may be merged with another similar category or scrapped.
10. You can promote voting in the Ratty Awards (including campaigning
for shows or performers) on other newsgroups, web sites, blogs, etc.,
as long as you do so with good netiquette. However, please do not
repost the ballot itself; instead, refer people to the rec.arts.tv
newsgroup where they will be able to find the ballot.
(NOTE: I will be campaigning myself, so please feel free to go ahead
and campaign for whatever you support.)
11. Only the five entries receiving the most points in each category
will make it to the ballot for the final round. We will not be putting
together a list of every show and person that was submitted in the
nominations round -- only the top 5 will become the official nominees
and be listed on the final ballot.
12. Finally, even if you can only submit entries for a few awards
categories, please send in your ballot with those categories since we
would like to get participation from a large number of people. Have
fun with it!

Oops, that should've been "Breaking Bad" instead of "Damages." But

episode (not the same episode) of Heroes.

You could make an argument for Louis as Supporting rather than Gues, of
course. It also looks like Green will be a regular supporting actor in the
2nd season of T:TSCC, but he wasn't in this one.

You could also argue Julia Ling for Supporting, but I don't think she
really got to do enough for that. Adair Tischler, I think, did a good job
in a thankless role (be cute and threatened).

they forgot! This could be serious trouble for me. ;)
How's the voting going?

And I want them posted to see what horrible mistakes people are making.

Eww. Even the Sondra Locke one?
Yes, "Sudden Impact", too. BTW, I don't agree with the Eww. "The
Enforcer" is my least favorite, and even it had some great lines.
--
Mac Breck (KoshN)
-------------------------------
"The Enforcer" (1976)
Harry Callahan: Hypothetical situation, huh? Alright, I'm standing on
the street corner, and Mrs. Grey there comes up and propositions me.
She says if I come home with her, for five dollars, she'll put on an
exhibition with a Shetland pony.
Mrs. Grey: If this is your idea of *humor* Inspector!
Lt. Dobbs: Alright, what are you trying to do here, Callahan?
Harry Callahan: I'm just trying to find out if anybody in the room knows
what the hell law's being broken, besides cruelty to animals.
That's just silly. It's more fun the other way round. Besides, you're
plonked so I didn't read this.

The 'eww' was Sondra Locke specific.
I still can't believe she had the nerve to claim he hindered her career.

I can see that. Kittens would be more fun to kick since they always
land on their feet. That's a surprisingly lucid thought for an
irrational serial plonker.

You're really asking for it. Keep this up and I'll unplonk WQ and READ

How do you like them apples, huh Sparky? Not so glib now are you.

I haven't been noticing WQ. I think he's away crossing things off his
bucket list.

Hey, cool, you gave me a nickname. You can't plonk someone you gave a
nickname. It's like drowning a puppy after naming it.

Surround yourself with as much hired help as you can afford. I'll
still find a way to get through.
She did have one good line in the movie, when she pulled up to some
punks and asked the leader if he wanted a lift...
Doesn't look like she's worked since 1999.

Personally, I liked her in The Gauntlet (1977).

Reading between the lines, I'm getting that I'm the only person you

Typical usenet argument strategy: Take your own puppy-drowning
behavior and twist it around to make me look bad.

Are you saying Hole is worth more to you dead than alive? That's
really mean and uncalled for!
I hated her in The Gauntlet. The film was fun for me only because it
was shot here. But it really needed a female lead who was attractive or
could act. Both would have been nice, but I'd have settled for "I
didn't cringe during the nude scene"
That's subjective. She looked good to me.

<Shrug> I thought she did OK.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Just in the last few days, you have declared Sondra Locke, Lori Petty, and
Katee Sackhoff to be ugly. Perhaps you just don't like women?
*Every* person has bad (photographic) angles[1] and lots of unflattering
moments in time, and some cretins on Usenet seem determined to showcase
them as "evidence" of how these stars have gone downhill and are now
unattractive (if not "scary" unattractive.), as seen in the Lori Petty
picture URL somebody posted. The moving picture is a much better
indicator of such things, but even that isn't wholly sufficient. Video
interviews are much better ([2]e.g. Jennifer Love Hewitt+++ and Cote de
Pablo+ on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson; Zooey Deschanel- on
Letterman, etc.), because you get some small feel for the actual person.
After having seen a picture of Katee Sackhoff in non-Starbuck guise, I
have to revise my opinion of her attractiveness way up. Lori Petty,
while not classically beautiful, has always had that something extra,
something intangible, that makes her attractive *to me*. I really liked
her on "Brimstone." Ditto for Lizzy Caplan in "The Class" and
"Cloverfield." Ditto for Claudia Black in "Farscape" and "Stargate
SG-1." Ditto for Frances Fisher on "Strange Luck" and "Becker." (I
guess Clint and I have similar tastes in women.<shrug>) I may not like
Sondra Locke if I actually knew her, but from what I've seen of her in
movies (The Gauntlet, Sudden Impact, and a few others), I find her to be
fairly attractive.
[1] One of the marks of a good photographer is finding the good
photographic angles, and not showing the bad ones.
[2] "+"=had to revise my opinion upward. "-"= had to revise my opinion
downward.

Let's begin by pointing out that Obveeus is a liar.
I see a post from May 3, where I said Lori Petty was sexier than Janine
Turner. Hard for even a liar like Obveeus to mistake that as an insult.
I did say "I always assumed Sackoff was Canadian. I mean, moose face."
on May 16. Hardly "in the last few days" proving again that Obveeus is
a liar.
Sondra Locke? Yeah, that's a fair cop. So Obveeus is a liar two thirds
of the time.

Just to be clear, Fred, I wasn't talking about you, as an example of one
of the cretins. You knew that, right?

Apparently time-based exageration is 'lying'.

I guess I exagerated on the timeframe...but I think the sentiment of 'moose
face' and other comments regarding Katee Sackhoff clearly shows that he does
not find her attractive.

He is a cretin for other reasons, though...like his taste in women (whatever
angle they are photographed in).
True. I never found her the least bit attractive on BSG (thru Season
2.5) or Bionic Woman, but photos 1 and 2 of 35 here...
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1475909376/nm0755267
...with long hair, made all the difference for me. Now, she's not in
the same league as say Christina Hendricks, Morena Baccarin, Liz Vassey,
Louise Lombard (CSI, but especially in "Hidalgo".), Lauren Holly (NCIS,
but especially in "Dumb & Dumber".), but she's not a "moose face",
either. She definitely needs long hair, shoulder length or longer, to
look the least bit attractive, to me. Otherwise, she's waaay too butch.

That's a little harsh. He can be touchy, brusque (as can I, when I get
pissed off.) and tend to take things too literally at times, but a
cretin? Naah, that's too harsh.
'Half-cretin' just doesn't seem to have the same ring to it.
LOL!
Yep. I only replied to Obveeus via you since I have him KF'd.
I can't imagine I ever said Lori Petty is ugly. I always thought she
was hot as hell.

Stick by your guns Hole! It's a well-known fact that answering any sort

Just participating on usenet allows "them" to take any and all of your

It's a fun poll-type thing to do during the Summer. We're not planning
to make an announcement to the media.
This is my nomination preview, consisting of a few less obvious
nomination suggestions, with a heavy bias toward first year shows. My
actual nominations (to be posted) will feature more returning shows.
Some of these actually won't end up making the cut on my ballot.

Looking at others' posted ballots, it seems that some don't think
that the show about the guy who touches murder victims (brings them
back to life), asks who killed them, touches them again, and they go
back to being dead, and he collects their reward, is SF (speculative
fiction, which includes fantasy).
So I got to wondering why _Pushing Daisies_ and _Reaper_ ought to
compete against _Battlestar Galactica_ and _Lost_ (which have
completely different styles) rather than _Chuck_ and _Life_ (which
have very similar styles). Of course, my answer is that they ought
not to, and the remedy is to remove the SF categories and add Dramedy
categories.

I've no more will to fight :-(
See Liza Minelli. ;-)
Unfortunately, The Dresden Files is not eligible.
RATTY Eligibility Dates: June 1, 2007 through May 31, 2008.
The Dresden Files aired January 21, 2007 through April 15, 2007.
Otherwise, it'd be on my list, too. :-(

Yeah, all hard to fit, along with the actors. I sort of ended up
spreading drama, comedy, and sci-fi around just to get everybody in.

Really? Damn, thanks. Booted that one. She ruined the show again last
night to the point I think it's off the DVR.

How about the original pilot? It first aired March 8, 2008.
Squeaks by on a technicality. I can't vote for it though, because I
never saw it.
cool. Now I have an entry for both
BEST SF EPISODE
and
BEST TV MOVIE/MINI-SERIES
:)
I also note I should have voted FLASH GORDON as 'most improved'
Google "Images" does. :)
bj
Were you the one who worked on his show last week when he asked if they
had a picture of Paul McCartney, who then put up a picture of PAUL
MCCARTNEY? <rolleyes> I thought Craig set you straight.
If you're a regular watcher of "The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson"
(...and there's another joke he makes about that.), you'd know that the
correct picture to show in that case would be of ANGELA LANSBURY.)
Similarly, when Craig asks for a picture of himself, they always show
LIZA MINELLI.

Didn't that *just* premiere?
Yeah, you might be right. It's probably not eligible. It's just that
it is the only REALITY/GAME PROGRAM I've seen, that I found the least
bit enjoyable.

It was noted my ballot contained some mistakes; stuff that wasn't
eligible.
Should I email just the corrections or a whole new ballot or what?
Same question.
If you want to replace those votes, please e-mail Robert Licuria at
the usual ballot address, and explain that you are submitting a
correction to your previous vote for an ineligible show. Please
provide your votes for the category or categories being changed only
-- don't submit the entire ballot, just the affected categories.
