I recently had someone want to see my tongue jewelry. I said no simply
because the only way to do it was to stick my tongue out at them, which
is rude. It was in a crowded place so it would have been awkward to
turn my head, stick out my tongue and place my hand in front of my
mouth -- as I've done in the past.

The person couldn't believe I wouldn't stick my tongue out.

Suggestions?

Would it have been possible to have simply opened your mouth?

Or would it have been possible for you to have said, "The only way I
can show you my tongue jewelry would be for me to stick my tongue out
at you."?

If they said, "Oh, my, that would be rude!" then you may have
sidestepped their disbelief.

If they said, "So?" then you could have done what I'm guessing
99.99999999999999999999 (or more) % of the world's population would
have done and, yes, stuck out your frigging tongue.

Just sayin'.

Second go:

No means no.

Kavin, the person's disbelief will certainly fade.

Kavin, where's your collective when you need them? I was actually
hoping to read other perspectives re your posted request for
suggestions.

Perhaps they all replied via private email.

i'll teach you to turn away.

it's /your/ wet muscle inside /your/ orifice. they can see it if
you decide they can see it. in a similar situation, i've said, "you can
see photos on my website," & left it at that. people don't exactly
second-guess me.

one of my favorites, though, is when someone asks if i have
"hidden piercings" or whatever's the euphamism du jour. pointing out that
they would never ask after the pink parts of a person who DIDN'T have
jewelry in her nose has caused them to be shocked by their own actions
every time. funny how often people are incredibly rude & have no idea
they've been such.

(me, i know /exactly/ when i'm rude.)
