Here's an abbreviated "Getting Started With GGobi" guide. Please try
this stuff out and let me know where it's broken. I just ran through
the Windows part and the "Testing on a Social Network Dataset" part
and that much of it works. :)

- or copy & paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't
work.

I added a couple of links to articles on using GGobi with social
network data.

on ubuntu the data is installed at /usr/share/ggobi/data/ by default.
It didn't direct me there automatically, so hope that helps somebody.
Thanks for the intro!

Thanks for testing this stuff! By the way, the datasets described in
the book need to be downloaded from the GGobi web site
http://ggobi.org/book/. Some of them are distributed with the package
the same as they are on the web site, some are distributed but are
different, and some aren't in the distribution at all! I am planning
to ask the GGobi team to sync the datasets up for the next release,
but I'm not sure what their schedule is. They're running a class in
July in Washington DC, which I highly recommend. Maybe they'll do it
for the class.

I've never met a happy clam. In fact, most of them were pretty steamed.

Greetings. I'm on an Apple G5 running OS X 10.5. I used macport to
install the gtk2 libray and made a link to it at where ggobi says it
is looking for it. I intstalled ggobi, seemingly w/o error, but when I
launch it I get the error message
.. execution error: X11 got an error: APpple Event timed out. (-1712)
dyle: Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks.GTK+.framework/Resources/
lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.0.dylib
Referenced from: /usr/local/ggobi/bin/ggobi
Reason: image not found

Suggestions?
thanks, Tom

I've never used it on a Mac. You might try installing GGobi from
source too -- that might tell you what if any dependencies are
missing. There's an XML library for sure that's required.
