Hello Pythonistas!

I was just perusing yonder calendar and noticing that we haven't had a get-together in a while. It looks like keeping to a bi-monthly schedule is going to be the right rhythm for us.

I'm proposing Wednesday July 7th for the next meeting, and unless someone who like to bring up a new locale I'd love to make a triumphant return to Orlando Brewing (rationale: http://groups.google.com/group/orlando-pug/browse_thread/thread/61769beb9d1fab40?hl=en#msg_81469c397076db95 )

We need probably 2 brief-ish (10 minutes + 10 minutes of Q&A) "Beer-side chats" in a similar vein to what Chris Scott did in May (thanks again Chris!)

Matthew Williams: Get anywhere with the OLPC ? You mentioned last go around you might like to talk about using python on it to do... something?
Everyone else: Interested in presenting something interesting and python related? Beginer to intermediate topics are probably best, but all comers welcome.

Hey guys,

If you want to join the Ruby Group this month, our talk this week
isn't very Ruby oriented. Ed Burns (from Sun Microsystems) will be
discussing highlights of his recently published his book entitled
Secrets of the Rock Star Programmers, which is a collection of
interviews with some of today’s top programmers. Two programmers in
the book you may be familiar with are Andy Hunt and Dave Thomas.

We’ll run through the book by looking at a cross section of
secrets (aka character attributes) exhibited by the rockstars,
listening to audio clips from the actual interviews along the way.

The talk is this Thursday, June 11th at Devry (Room 114) starting
at 7 PM. Maybe see some of you guys there.

-Gregg

I think with the meeting out to the July 7th, that should give me
plenty of time to figure something out.

I'd like to write an app to sorta give an introduction from scratch to
deployment on the device and I think I can pull it off. My thought
was a Twitter client, which might be a bit ambitious. The PyTwitter
library looks straight forward. But to really make it shine I want to
have access to the OLPC camera to snap photos and post to Twitpic. If
I go reallllly basic I think I can pull it off; otherwise, it'll be a
talk about the typical environment you would use to develop in (going
to develop in an Ubuntu 9.x VM) using Glade.

If anyone has any solid resources (or would want to work on this with
me), let me know and we can get the ball rolling.

So you can tentatively pencil me in for the 7th!

Just to be clear you mean Wednesday July 8th? Just asking because
July 7th is a Tuesday.

Thanks & thank you for trying to avoid conflicts - super appreciated! :)

A reminder:  OPUG on Wednesday.  Who wants to talk about something?

(Incidentally, were my few OOB email messages useful to anyone?  Want more info in any subject?)

Hey Everyone,

I know I semi-committed to talking about the OLPC and its use of
Python but I don't think I'll be able to come up with a worthy
discussion. Once the date and time is drilled down I'll see if I can
attend and if anything I'll bring the OLPC for anyone to hack around
on. But my Python-fu is weak and I can't think of anything that would
be engaging enough to take up half a meeting. Plus I'm out in Palm
Bay, so it's a solid drive out to Orlando for me and depending on the
day and such, it's tough to make it out there in time for some
meetings.

Anyway, as far as avoiding conflicts, here is the Orlando Tech Event
Calendar:

My brother has write privileges to it, so once there's a date and time
settled for the meeting, let me know and I'll go ahead and get it
published in the calendar.

Take it easy everyone!

I just mentioned to Chad via IRC that I won't be able to make it, but
yes, tonight, Orlando Brewing, 7pm. (And someone remind me not to
schedule it on Wednesdays going forward)

Thanks. I'll be there, but it may be a bit after 7.

I will try to come.  My wife frowns when I take the toddler to the bar.  If she rescues him from my care in time, I will be there.
