See http://www.ohiocivilwar.com/cw47.html  for a large bibliography of the 47th Ohio.

    Hello,

My 95 year old father-in-law is writing the story of his grandfather
who served in the Civil War. I am looking for any information on the
47th OVVI or OVI. We know a book was written about the 47th and there
is mention of Harry Hallsted in this book. Any information anyone can
send me would be much appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Denise Hallsted

Hi,
Despite the extensive bibliography Joe was so kind to point and Larry was so kind to have posted.  Please don't forget local newspapers.  For the most part these men came from Hamilton County which means the 2 major newspapers to look at in microfilm are available through inter-library loan from the OHS.  You may buy them outright to use at your pace.  Many soldiers wrote letters as "correspondents" during the war or just plain wrote to the newspaper.  The 2 newspapers are cincinnati Commercial and Cincinnati Gazette.  There was reference to another county.  Again the OHS has a pamphlet noting the counties  and newspapers published there.  My copy is at least 20 years old so the OHS may have expanded their microfilm holdings.  But they do indeed have a list.  I think it refers to what's in their collection and/or what they know where to get the newspapers.
