Brian,
So as far as the scrimmage goes, did you have a specific format in mind, and
possibly a time frame?

A sunday tournament for UCSC would be the difference between having 8
and 10 strips. You made it quite clear that it is not okay for us to
have 8 strips, and you also made it quite clear that we cannot safely
fit 10 strips into the East Field Gym.
I understand the academic pressures of it being on Sunday, hence why I
asked if we could. If I did not understand, I would have done it
without your permission. I apologize for my rudeness, but I am not
going to dance on egg shells to keep everything copacetic when things
need to get done.
So here is our next question: is it okay if we can only fit 8 strips?

Dear all,
Based on past experiences, I would lobby against a Sunday tournament.
Too many fencers will feel academic pressure and we can expect greatly
reduced attendance on a Sunday, since those who (in the past) have
attended on Saturday, do so in the knowledge they will have Sunday to
catch up on their studies.
I'm sure there are other reasons too...but I am skeptical of Sunday
tournaments. I suggest Club officers poll their membership--formally--
and get some real-world feedback.
Good times,

A Sunday tournament will most likely have a very low turnout, so the
increase to 10 strips won't make much of a difference. If you don't
think that 8 strips will suffice, then perhaps you will need to
somehow restrict the tournament. One solution might be to cut a
weapon, so that we can still finish on time. Nobody wants to have less
fencing or exclude anyone but it would be preferable for some people
to fence rather than none.

I think 8 strips will suffice, I was under the impression that 10
strips were a requirement for a tournament in the NCIFL.
