Dear all,

Warm greetings and salutations.  I hope your summer was at least in part restful, though knowing fencers as I do, I suspect many, if not most of you took summer classes.

It's time to start thinking of getting our 2011-2012 season in order, and traditionally, that starts at UCSC with our opening tournament the weekend before Halloween, which this year would be Saturday, 29 October.

This tournament is preceded by the fall League Meeting, at which we discuss issues and concerns for the upcoming season, and at which your delegates vote on motions brought before the League Governing Body.

I also send a warm welcome to Donald Stockton, of UN-Reno, who tells me UNR is interested in joining the league, or at least participating in some events.

I have been hearing rumors--happy ones!--that Poly will be back online for this season, though I have not yet had such rumors confirmed?  Poly, can we get word on this?

Finally, can we get a shout-out from all participant clubs?  I'd like to hear back from UCB, CPSLO, UCSC, UCD, UCSB, SCC and CSUF--come on folks, let's get this fired up!

Sincerely,

Thom

Hi TC and all:

From UCSB -- I am not sure where we'll fit into the mix in the first part of the season.  I can assure you that very few, in anyone, from UCSB will leave town during Halloween weekend.  In the past, even events scheduled in our own gym during that weekend were poorly attended.  And those who did show up were sluggish, red-eyed, and complained about the sounds from the scoring boxes.

But please keep us on the mailing list so we can stay abreast of possible tournaments.
Thanks,

Tim

Fellow fencers,

SCC is ready to test itself against all comers in the ’11 – ’12 season. We may be small, but our weapons are mighty. Looking forward to a good season of competition.

Hey Everyone,

Cal Poly is pumped for this year's upcoming competitions. We're fighting as hard as we can to get space at our gym for a tournament. This quarter we might be able to pull of a tournament on November 13th, so I'll let you all know how that turns out as soon as I know. I think it would best for the league if Fresno still attempts to throw their November tournament, in the event that ours doesn't work out. The other alternative if Santa Cruz is still willing, would be that we host a tournament at their facilities sometime this year.

Hoping for the best,

HI!
UC Berkeley is also very excited about the upcoming season as well. We have a strong and vibrant contingent of novice fencers as well as some seasoned, yet fresh from high school, advanced fencers.
See you all soon. Go Bears!

I know it's not commonly done but could UCSC host the tournament on a
Sunday? Specifically Sunday 23rd.

While not ideal, if a Sunday tournament is the difference between having a tournament and not having a tournament then we can definitely do it on Sunday.

Brian,
So as far as the scrimmage goes, did you have a specific format in mind, and possibly a time frame?
