Hi all,

Find attached a sample logo (on black and on white) that I have been working on!

Your suggestions and comments are highly encouraged!

Also note you all are free to submit logo's and slogans for MOSS.

Just my 2.09 cents on this! :)

very nice. This just SCREAMS to be printed on t-shirts!

btw once we have something finalized, I was hoping we could have a
"badge" thing that moss members and advocates can display on their
blogs/websites etc preferrably linking to the moss website. I reckon
that would garner some attention towards the movement.

Personally I like Akram's M1 than the variations with the red, green
and white.
I suggest to get some professional advice for this. There are a lot of
talented young Maldivian with a good design skills. Get them
involved.

And at least get the logo artist to write a two paragraph description
of what the logo represents. It would be very helpful to write a small
brief for the designers to work with... what should the logo represent
(what does MOSS represent)?

I personally like Akram's logo too! But let us not stop there, feel free to submit as many logo's as one want. In addition with the spirit of MOSS I would like to propose one more thing.

---
Everyone is free to take these concepts and build upon them and make them better in any way they want. Like the FLOSS way. It is ok, for others to use our work and improve them.
----

Once we have our website up and running we can initiate an online voting of the 5 most promising logo's and come to a conclusion.

Until than, feel free to submit as many logo's as you want.

Hello Akram.

I just learnt from Sobah that you're his brother. It's good to know that and to have your support. As for the subject at hand, I would like to congratulate you on the revisions of the logos and these two are exceptional as your previous work.

I like M2 but it needs to have the title text of M2.1. I would consider that a perfect logo and final from my perspective. We could then go for a community vote with the rest of the logos.

We have also decided that we will close this issue between 10th and 15th September.

One other thing. A color scheme needs to be selected as well. We could concurrently vote for a color scheme as well, probably just a single color, a complementary scheme, analogous or monochromatic with 3 to 4 variations.

Cheers.

Hi all,

I am stuck in Seenu Hithadhoo with lot of time, a PC and internet. So
to kill time here is a color scheme for the MOSS Logo.

I have made Myriad Pro as the default font, but you all are welcome to
suggest alternatives.

I have also made two version of the logo proposed by Akrum, one
vertical and one horizontal.

The supportive colors are chosen as they are the colors that best
match with the chosen blue. These colors can be used as the
background, typesetting and other graphic uses.

As always comment and suggestions highly welcomed.

Akram, can you send the vector form of the logo! For this document I
have traced the logo so when zoomed to extremes it will show the mess.

I will do a proper usage document of the logo once everyone agrees
with this logo and it is finalized.

hey everyone, I have a new design to show.
in this version I have added 3 similar crescents inside 'O' with red, green and white colour, basically to give it a Maldivian identity.
the font used in the text is Telegrafico.
pour in your views in the comments.

@Inn, as for the colour scheme, I think Shunan has done a pretty good job in his pdf about the colour scheme and typeface.

@Shunan, great job with your pdf and I don't have that font you've used in that document so I had to stick with the font I used previuosly. Lastly, I have included inkscape file, so feel free to make your own tweaks.

Hi

I like the crescent version, however, we have tried and used the
present logo in presentation and others and it look pretty cool
without the crescent. I guess the name M stand for Maldives and it is
good enough to indicate the logo belongs to Maldives. :)

In design I guess the most difficult part is to know when to stop, huh? ;)

So I will vote for the logo as it was before M2 and as outlined in the
color scheme doc.

And yes I do own the Myriad Pro and find attached the font for anyone
who need to use it for MOSS.

hello,

I have tried to make the crescent thick but another issue is how can we make the white crescent visible on a white background?
Red and Green works fine on white and black background. I hope you know what I'm saying.

I think we better stop here with the previous version as lot of members liked it the way before without crescent.

And regarding the text, I think it'd be good if we use the same font size through out the text because when we make the logo small in size the 'open source' part gets quite difficult to read. refer M9 in the previous post to see how it looks with the same font size.

what do you guys say?

You pose a good point. But I guess it will be alright. We wouldn't be using the logo on very small scales. And where necessary, we could always remove the text and just use the MOSS part. Let's go with this. We can come back and revise when ever the scaling problem happens. Savvy?

I don't see a problem with allowing commercial use (within limits of
course) and small modifications (to suit a particular purpose as long as
the essence of it is not lost)

we aren't big brother after-all :)

side-note: on the time-line thing - I suppose for the time being it will
suffice. recommend incorporating the feature into the website.

Shuna,

* We won't be allowing either commercial use of the logo unless certified partners use them for promotional materials of events and affiliated causes with MOSS, not their services or products.

* Modifications of the MOSS logo is not allowed where ever it is reproduced by 3rd parties for which ever material it's used on. Only the approved versions may be used.

* As for derivative work, the logo can be used to base other logo design work on. The similar use of font and typography can be replicated, so long as the original work is attributed.

* It doesn't matter if another party uses the same logo with the same font and colors for their logo work, eg: APP1 (title text: The Number One App).

That's what I've had in mind. I'll prepare a more appropriate version and get back to you. Cheers.

Hi

Find below the link for the Logo document with the License info added
to it.

http://groups.google.com/group/mlugmv/web/MOSS_Logo_V1.2.pdf

I went for the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike
3.0, if this need to be changed let me know. I guess this license best
fit in the general idea that is floating around.

In addition some minor corrections were also made in this version,
like moss website address. ;)

Hi.

With all that confirmed, I would like to ask from you that one of my partner designer has spotted some flaws with the logo and enhancements. So I would like to suggest these minor enhancements and improvements within the following days.

He also mentioned what Akram highlighted about the text being in different sizes and weight, which is a design flaw. So hope it's ok with all of you for the short period I'm requesting to bring about these changes from my side. Cheers.

Carry on, cheers.

Hi

I hate when people place logic into design... Design is design, and it
is suppose to convey the message in style. ;)

So we need a professional opinion about the logo?

My suggestion is why not we place the logo to www.logopond.com and see
what they have to say. Thousands of professional's around the world
will see and if asked, will comment on ways to improve the logo.

Since Akram is the original creator of the logo, it would be nice if
he take the initiative and create an account and post the result! ;)

Lets get this finalized once in for all, I think it is taking too much
time.

Shunan and all,

You say you hate when people place logic into design, yet you have said that logic is applied elsewhere, especially with ideas. A design is an idea and comes from a creative process and it has to be appealing in it's most generic form for all of us. Creativity comes from a logical process and if not given enough time to conjure ideas, a resulting design can be a failure (eg: architectural designs, engineering designs, etc).

We can proceed with how you have proposed and if Akram has the time, he can take the initiative to get feedback from the aforementioned community.

We have to show patience and I urge that this is an area where we need to show a special attention to. If this can be done within the following 3 days including the  weekend, I would have results from my side as well. We can finalize it the following week.

We also need to think economical in our effort of ideas. Since we're at this process, we might as well focus on this and build upon what's been proposed rather than coming back to this at a later time only to dispense more of our time with the same issue.

So I request a little patience from everyone just for a little while longer. Thank you. Cheers.

Inn,

Just to make things clear! As for the logo are we

a) waiting/wanting to modify and amend the current logo or
b) in need of a new and fresh concept or
c) just waiting for something, anything? :)

Shunan,

Not to modify but to amend/fix and make it right. We're not in need of a new or fresh concept. Just a little ironing out. The color scheme and everything is all good. And I think we could use a better font if that might happen to be a case.

Are we talking about the MOSS part or the writeup?

As someone did raised the fact that the logo from a far looks like
NOSS rather than MOSS!

As for the font of the writeup part, let us experiment a bit, I am
leaving to Male' at 4:30, and will do some font experimentation!

Everyone feel free to post your versions.

Shunan, it might happen as letters are very close together, if that's the case we can use M8 version instead, MOSS part is much easier to read and I guess the M will not be confused for N again.

everyone judge it for yourself and have a say about this.

see M8.1 below.

If there are no objections from any other I guess we have a winner, 8.1.png!

Can we get a vector file of this so I can update the needful!

I'm cool with it but as Inash raised some valid points I think we need to give it a shot.

Can anybody contact Inash if he has made any progress with fixing the logo?

We need to get this done a.s.a.p.

Hi Akram,

Amendments are pending, although we've decided to use M8.1 for the time being for the current tasks at hand and for the SFD09 event. We will get back to the issue afterwards. Cheers.
