the encouragement thread -- what i like about [mwer]'s posts

this is an official mw challenge.

and i do mean challenge. whoa.

...

anyway, here's how it works:

1. choose an mwer and describe what you like about their posts.

2. replace the placemarker [mwer] in the subject line. *

3. go back to step #1 and choose another mwer.

4. repeat until you're so fucking exhausted from posting constructive
encouraging stuff about mwers that you can't post anymore (that should
happen well before you're able to complete a single post for this
challenging challenge).

5. rejoice!

because, if you're actually successful at completing at least one such
post, that qualifies you to submit an entry for the second part of
this official mw challenge -- coming soon to a new thread near you:

"what i DON'T like about [mwer]'s posts"

since the second part of this challenge is not a challenge at all in
any challenging sense whatsoever, you can ONLY compose as many of
those as it equals the number of mwers you encouraged in the first
part of the challenge -- and only about the mwers you chose for part
one.

and you must wait one week before engaging in part two of the
challenge.

those with no discipline or creativity can carry on as usual.

ok.

...

ready?

set?

go.

...

* 2b. if someone-else beats you to the "punch," post yours in-thread

IOW: if someone-else has already changed the subject line by replacing
the [mwer] of your choice, attach your comments there -- no need to
quote theirs (it's optional), this is simply requested to keep
comments about [specific mwer] all in one place in the goog archives
-- so Sylvia won't have to work so hard to quote them in the future
when your comments inveitably come back to haunt you.

k?

enjoy.

if you can.

...

you probably can't.

that says alot about you.

much more than you realize.

(which you'll read about in the second part of this challenge).

Zero really tries. I like the feeling that comes across that he thinks
what he's doing is clever. I like all the white space in the posts.
They're pleasing. There seems a deep sincerity to what Zero writes,
though some of the best posts are those that show the real insecurity
(humanity) of this "always right" persona.

Sylvia's <scurrying> and <waving a tiny carrot in the air> kinds of
things create more than a visual image. There's a real building of a
character. She's consistent with the character, too, so the more posts
you read the less distracting the <brackets> are and more in-character
they seem. I can see her tiny little self running around.

She's a hardcore Internet researcher and really knows her way around Photoshop.

I like the conversational style of her posts.

Oh my god, he makes me laugh. He's also careful and polished. Great
language skills.

And, of course, he's one of the most mentor-y posters in here. He's
patient with my repetitive nature and is willing to tell me the same
thing again and again, even though I really could go search the
messages to find where he said it the first time.

I adore how he can describe so clearly the books he's written. And,
it's inspirational that he's such a dedicated writer while unashamedly
hasn't had a lot published, fiction-wise.

the week will have passed based on the respective timestamps of your
initial post(s) about the mwer(s) in question.

so the sooner you post a positive one, the sooner you can get back
into trash-em mode.

it's a math thinger.

OK, who had "July 22" for "When Will Heather Change Tactics From Her Multiple
Ill-Fated 'Sylvia Is A BAD Peep and Her Posts Make Me Cry' Email Campaigns to
Directly Sucking Up To Sylvia About Her Posts?"

Well, hell, I'm won over by the poor innocent, non-manipulative widdle kitteh,
despite her passive aggressive slap. No, really, I'll just dismiss her months
of "mentally unbalanced"-esque lames, 'cause, HEY! Heather Denkmire/serenebabe
LIKES me! She really LIKES me! Any minute she's gonna ask me her classic DEEP
questions about my RL writing, so I had better go double check to see what
width margins I use and stuff.

Anyway, due to her post I've decided that now I'm gonna devote myself to
defending Heather/serenebabe, 'K?

Cuz I like to read them. They're fun. They write cool stuff. They're

And I like your posts because you post things that make people examine

Not much more to say.

Except that I miss posts by Ing, Dust, and Zen.

what i like about boots's posts

the original and unusual metaphors.

the wonderful way the ideas flow from one thought to another providing
a rich and colorful imagery which makes you laugh at yourself (and
boots) while also challenging your preconceptions.

the way that he claims that he has absolutely no imagination
whatsoever yet *shows* otherwise.

the way that he doesn't take himself over-seriously (if at all).

the interesting little stories he tells about his own experiences.

WTF! I'm not going to incriminate myself by writing about individuals.
There are lots of folks I like to read here, which is why I keep
coming back. But if I name some, then the ones I don't name are gonna
be pissed at me. The ones who are pissed at me to begin with, aren't
the ones I could name.

I'll name:
Pillock, who actually posts about writing
Sal, who is like a walking Wikipedia of writing stuff
PJ, who seems to be a nice, nice person
Geno, who is too outrageous to take seriously

See? Now aren't the rest of you all pissed at me?

what i like about Goalpost's posts

firstly, the sigs.

definitely the sigs.

they beautifully demonstrate her sense of the absurd.

one can only marvel at where she finds them all.

the sense of humor contained in those sigs usually nicely punctuates
everything stated previously in her post.

as far as her own content, there's often a lightly flowing devil-may-
care quality to her stingingly mocking banter (except when it
occasionally degenerates into vicious malice, at which point she is
very amusing to watch meltdown).

she skillfully uses many funny words like:

'natch

snookem's

honeybuns

and other such playful stuff which often adds quite a bit of friendly
zing (*) to the points she's trying to make.

(*) sometimes nicely communicating a restrained but-polyannish anger
which is delightful to witness.

you can tell that she is a very thoughtful person who does a lot of
reading, research, experiencing, and thinking, but without getting
bogged down in any of it.

most of the time, anyway.

she used to be way more of an evasive slippery subject-shifter (hence
her nickname), but of late she is quite a bit more consistent in her
positions -- in a good way.

she comes across as a generally loving person with a great sense of
humor.

Goalpost's posts are filled with intelligence and wit, if not always
correct opinions.

I think boots is way too hard on himself. Not in a self-deprecating
way, but insulting. But, yeah, I agree with these two things. I really
like the bits about his actual life.

I think that's my favorite part of any post is when the person shares
about their real life.

So totally pissed.

But, it is true that this kind of topic is totally risky. Possibilities
for insults by omission or "faint praise" and critiques of the
critiques.

I'm pretty sure it was Zero's intention that we all try saying nice
things about each other. It's a bit forced, but, an interesting idea.
Almost like an experiment -- and I know Zero likes to experiment.

PS If my writing skills failed and our history didn't make it obvious,
I was soooooo kidding about being pissed.

anyway, it's not called a challenging challenge for nothing.

but since there's no time limit on this challenge, you could do one or
two a day, or one or two a month.

that provides you with lots of cover for those who/m you don't get to

why would anyone be pissed?

you're a writer writing about other writers, one at a time.

if they don't eventually make your list somehow, you're doing them a
big favor.

maybe they'll give that fact some much-needed thought... and evolve.

i'm afraid that, as a t-shirt, that may be far too easily
misinterpretted as being gender specific (not to mention misoginistic)
and therefore could get the wearer into big trouble.

sorta? no.

i snipped to get to the salient point, figuring that as a writer you'd
give the question some thought.

> You sorta left out this part.
>
> Cuz I like to read them. They're fun.

ok.

but that's a bit general to say the least.

so as a writer why not elaborate one by one about:

"what i like about Stan's, Alan's, Donna's, UV's,
Jackson's, Sylvia's, Grand Mal's, Wildpad's,
Sal's, Bernie's, RJM's, John's, Dangerous Bill's,
and LNC's posts"

> And I like your posts because you post things that make

so why not examine your thoughts and tell us what it is individually
that you find about:

Stan's, Alan's, Donna's, UV's, Jackson's,
Sylvia's, Grand Mal's, Wildpad's, Sal's,
Bernie's, RJM's, John's, Dangerous Bill's,
and LNC's posts

that makes you feel that:

1. They are fun.
2. They write cool stuff.
3. They're cool peeps.

> Not much more to say.

so why not examine your thoughts and tell us why you don't have much
more to say about what it is about their posts, individually, that you
like and makes you feel what you do about each of them.

Once again, Sal towse feels it necessary to remind MW peeps about one of the
rooolze of:

The Sal towse Acceptable Quality Post Seal of Approval

This one bein' that towse does NOT allow MW MIGS to use the quotes of peeps
wot don't approve of them. Lookit, March 2007:

Miz Sylvia: "-- Sylvia <--- The Supreme Ruler of MW

" '...the haddad will not let his love of the sound of
his own voice (the sight of his own writing, one
ought to say) be in any way diminished by having
only bollocks to say.' - Zen in MW 2/20/03 "

towse: "How pathetic it is that Sylvia quotes people to support
her views ... ... who might not support her."

Anyone who missed towse whining the same thing at me for quoting Zen, make
a note of the rooolze NOW. damn! I can't believe I broke her rooolze
again!

<tiny tears>

Will towse ever forgive me? I don't think I could survive without bein' in
her good graces!

But, wot's this? </tiny tears> LOOKIT ! :

"Skip" Press: "One of my proudest productions was a show called
A Woman's Guide to Firearms.[...]"

towse: " 'A one-hour video that I wrote got made because
it was financed by Scientology actress Lee Purcell
and her then Scientology husband's brother.'

" What Scientology Taught Me. Item #10 on the list."

"Skip" Press: "Lots of things get financed personally, Sally, like

Isn't it entertaining how Sal towse feels she has to back up her posts

summabitch! towse even has taken it upon herself to declare rooolze about

Really? I have to live in the zillion others even in a list THIS long?

I was wondering about Wendy today.

I was also recently trying to remember if UV used to be piranna or if
we both just used to post in alt.support.nutty.as.a.fruitcake or maybe
they're not related at all?

Glynne! She was nice, if she's the person I'm thinking of. But I don't
think the person I'm thinking of had an "e" at the end.

Actually, I think one of the reasons Sylvia's jaws are still clamped on
my ass is because I like Jack Mingo so much. Apparently there were some
really seriously shitty times with him, so, I think there's a bit of
hate-by-association. It's one of the very few things that explains her
obsession to me. Not that I really get it, but, I do try not to think
of it.

How did you come up with that list, Zero? Just memory?

OK. Checked it out. Not many posts and most of those during the Woodside

Seems she was cross-posting into misc.writing from alt.atheism.

She's terrific, again, if I'm remembering the right person. They do all
blend for me.

Remembering people in m.w is a bit like trying to remember an alcoholic
blackout or a car accident. You know those awful waves of blurry images
that you wonder how they fit together? More the blackout kind, since
really terrific and funny and hot memories can be a part of it.

I've been remembering my car accident more lately and it totally freaks
me out. I was "double t-boned" I think I mentioned, and it was SO
FUCKING QUIET.

One looks to be a cross-post from alt.atheism in response to a Woodside
attack on Jayne Hitchcock. The other, calling Marty Fouts fascistic
(schmardt woman, even back then). I seem to remember her participating
more, but I can't find any others.

piranha used to post to alt.support.nutty.as.a.fruitcake? Doesn't seem

That UV chick, though. Yeah. She might've posted to

For *you*, Heather...

<staring>

Heather, I believe that I can safely say the most people here do not share
your "alcoholic blackout" frame of reference. In fact, thankfully, most people
in general do not share your "alcoholic blackout" frame of reference. Your
casual allusion makes me think that you don't understand that.

> More the blackout kind, since really terrific and funny and hot memories

<staring>

Your fond remembrance of alcoholic blackouts as "really terrific and funny and
hot" is creepy. It isn't funny, and it isn't endearing. And, I gather you are
referring to the hallucinatory or other manifestations of your alcoholism
because (and we've been over this before, Heather, and recently) by
definition, you don't remember *anything* when you suffer a blackout,
alcohol-induced or otherwise.

i vaguely recall that Jael had a cool ASCII thinger of some sort in
her sig sometimes (though i don't remember what it was).

and she was a songwriter of some sort, right?

anyway, her name was spelled cool.

somebody else had a neat barefoot-walking ASCII thinger, but i can't

though not impossible, it's pretty hard to search the mw archives for
those ASCII thingers.

seems like it would be way too time-consuming.

Yah, but it don't work that way, I search on what I remember. ForEx, I
remember Father Luke sharing an ASCII Hand with us when Mr. RJM shared
ASCII... ummm... other body parts:

Took me seconds to nab that. I have no memory concernin' who and what you are

I'm not sure he really believes what he says.

I have no idea if he's serious about anything or is merely writing a
character. I can't even tell if he has cats.

If he's writing a character, it's quite an accomplishment.

I had doubt for a while, actually.

I was totally convinced that this guy must be working a character (see
my first posts back in m.w last year where I refer to the "Cleverly
Done character"). He's such an ignorant fool, so filled with hate, it's
sad if he's *really* the way he seems to be in m.w. I sometimes still
tell myself when I read parts of his posts, "he's such a caricature
he's GOT to be faking it."

Golly, Heather, are you *still* chewing over the time that I pointed out that
you were whining about the absence of someone who went out of his way to show
his disdain for this newsgroup?

Yeahright (c). Mingo was here for one (1) thirty-eight (38) day period since
I've been aboard, and I didn't even know who he was. He trashed the newsgroup,
wished several of us us death, ran off, and hasn't returned since. Not much of
a history there, now is there, Heather?

We've been through this before. Why is it you can't accept thet fact that yer
just another Weasel in the Garden, Heather? Oh, right, you only "accidently"
read my posts.

Ray Haddad: "Seen Heather lately?"

Miz Sylvia: "You mean Heather/serenebabe who has spent a
decade repeating her old "show up, lie to, suck-up
to, and generally attempt to manipulate MW MIGS
until thoroughly exposed, then leave in tears"?
*That* Heather? She recently finished her latest
cycle, Haddad. Do try to keep up."

"Here's the thing, Heather. I am The Supreme Ruler of MW,
and you trashed my newsgroup with lies. At the same time you
used malicious snippage to trash Mr. Stan and other good MW
peeps with lies while elevating the Simeball Ray Haddad.

"That's when I first gave ya more than cursory notice. I then
saw yer trail of lying and hypocrisy. I get a <chortle!> out of
whacking weasels, and you, Heather Denkmire/serenebabe,
just another weasel in the garden."
