WRITERS POLL -- Obama's Inauguration Speech

i don't think any other speech in the history of mankind has ever been
more anticipated with more hope by more people and with so many high
expectations.

talk about pressure, huh?

can you imagine what it must be like to be one of Obama's
speechwriters at this point?

Obama is the most popular leader in the world today, bar none.

of course, considering all of the damage done to the free world after
eight long years of Bush, that's probably not nearly as difficult of a
title as it would otherwise be.

still, the expectations for Obama go way beyond the overwhelming sense
of relief created by that total asshole Bush.

Obama has already transcended everyone's idea of what a great leader
ought to be.

and he has a huge load of emotional human history to represent as well
(in regards to finally overcoming racism in America to a large extent,
for instance).

and he has to address the terrible economic situation that so many
people now face (in the first world as well as the third world).

all eyes and ears are on this upcoming speech.

and noses, of course.

and cameras.

we're all looking forward to being wonderfully inspired into being
beautifully challenged to become better versions of ourselves.

we're all looking forward to seeing our individual struggles as
something other than depressing monotonous irritations.

we're all looking forward to a more sensible world of compassion and
beauty and creativity and love and truth and fun.

and we're all expecting the upcoming inauguration speech to be that
first stepping stone -- that first stepping jewel -- in a way that far
surpasses JFK's "ask not what your country can do for you, as what you
can do for your country" did.

one that also far surpasses the way FDR's "the only thing we have to
fear is fear itself" did.

and so on.

...

so, if you were writing Obama's upcoming speech, what would you say?

seriously.

try to compose even one single sentence, let alone an entire speech.

think about it.

...

and think about the significance of the difference between being faced
with the lowest possible expectations (Bush) and the highest possible
(Obama).

Glad my humor came across. Sometimes it doesn't read
right on the screen and people take offense.

You totally got it.

Easy. All he has to do is promise not to break anything.

Acknowledging that this nation is a republic with a constitution would
help.

People have very high hopes that by Wednesday, all of the Bush damage
will be fixed. I suspect that it will take a decade to undo, and he'll
be fighting Republican lies all the way.

It is funny, but I strongly suspect that his choice of Biden for VP
rests on an assumption that he will be assassinated at some time
during his two terms. MLK (since it's his day) made the same
assumptions, and guess what?
