This behavior can occur if the Pop3uidl.dbx file is damaged. This file is in
the OE message store folder.
1. Click Exit on the File menu to quit Outlook Express.
2. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
Include hidden files and folders.
3. In the Search for files or folders named box, type Pop3uidl.dbx,
and then click Search Now.
4. Under Search Results, right-click the Pop3uidl.dbx file, and then
click Rename.
5. Type Pop3uidl.old, and then press ENTER.
6. To start Outlook Express, click Start, point to Programs, and then
click Outlook Express.
Open the Store Folder
Instead of using search the store folder can be opened directly. Each
identity has its own store folder.
a.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance tab...Store
Folder.
b.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the folder.
c.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end.
d.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy.
e.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the store
folder.
f.. Close Outlook Express before working with the message store files.
Using Keyboard Shortcuts for Transfer of the Folder Path
Courtesy of: Jim Pickering, MVP-Outlook Express
An even easier method when opening that page is to use the Tab to
highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C and close OE, then use Start/Run
and Ctrl+V. Same caveat about hidden files applies but can be easily
modified in Explorer by using Tools/Folder Options.

Are you sure you don't mean news posts?
Did you have OE set to leave messages on the server without a ## of days set
to delete them?

Please reply in newsgroup. Do NOT send email.
If you ISP offers web access and you can create user folders on the mail
server, one option would be to create a user folder there and move the
old messages out of the Inbox into the user folders.

First create a new OE folder under Local Folders and move the messages you
want to save to that folder. Delete, backup or move messages still in the
Inbox, With the Inbox open and in offline mode choose Compact from the File
menu. It is also possible to delete the Inbox.dbx file with OE closed to
create a new, empty Inbox in OE when the program is started.
Return to Online mode, then try a Send/Receive without the option to keep
messages on the server. If messages are now deleted from the server mail box
do not delete or rename the POP3uidl.dbx file.
Remove the message you do not want to save, or do a backup leaving an empty
Inbox. Move the messages stored in the new folder back to the Inbox when
everything is working normally.

Can you tell me how to make those rules? Gratefully,
JCW
Your problem is how to get the last five days of messages without having to
download all of the messages.
Nothing in OE will let you get the last five days of messages without
getting all messages.
OE will not mark any messages as downloaded until all messages download.
Do you have web access to your mail server?
If your account is pop3, you can use http://mail2web.com/

You did as who suggested?
Please include the message you are replying to, no mind readers here :-)

I have read the thread!! My reply to you was the second answer that you got.
Threads do not work that way.
First thing to do, go to the tools menu in OE>options>send tab>select
'include message in reply'>Apply/ok.
That will show us who you are responding to?
>Can you offer some assistance?"
Trying to! As i said, if you do not tell us clearly what you tried, how on
earth can we move forward?
OK you where responding to Michaels post that said:
"If your ISP offers web access"
Then go there again and delete all the older messages. It sounds like you
copied them to the 'new folder'?
Then remove the checkmark from 'leave message on server'.
OE>tools>accounts>properties>advanced.
(Unless you need to get the messages on more than one PC, then you do not
need that setting selected).
Try to get mail now?
Try this for the duplicate messages, even though you said it was a POP3
account, OE>tools>options>general tab>remove the checkmark from 'send &
receive at start up'>Apply/ok.
When you open OE you will then have to use the 'send & receive' button to
get mail, but it should stop any duplicates?
Try to get mail now?
If the above fails to clear the backlog of messages, get back to us with the
name of your ISP, your rightly munged address does not help us, do you use
Hotmail?
All the best :-)
Bear in mind that we do not know if we are trying to help a 12 year old, a
90 year old teenager or even an IT Pro?

This is a pure guess try http://sbcglobal.prodigy.net/ log in with your mail
account and password.
Have fun deleting the Spam.
If this is the wrong sbc then some one over the pond had better step in, as
it is 2am here, I am off to bed :-)

I'm not sure what you asked me to do, but if you have and advice I would
appreciate it. At this point I am trying to download all the messages from
the server then go from there, but I seem to be having a problem getting
through to the most recent emails.

Tools | Accounts
Double click the account and go to the Advanced tab.
Check the box to delete messages after 5 days and change 5 to whatever you
want.
Go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder and write down where OE
is storing your messages. Close OE and go there in Windows Explorer (you
will have to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders).
Delete Pop3uidl.dbx. When you open OE it will download all the messages on
the server again as it rebuilds Pop3uidl.dbx but then it will know what not
to download.
