My bank uses a non standard way to export my transactions. I bring
these into Excel, then perform some manupulations and export using
XL2QIF. My QIF file contains: Date, Payee, Amount, Memo
When I try to import the resulted file into Money using
"Import->Downloaded Statement", it imports, shows all the transactions
as Unaccepted BUT it does not import the memo field for some reason!
If I import the file using "Import->Recover Accounts" it does import
all the fields, but in this case, the transactions are not market in
bold, to let me know that they need to be accepted (It is very useful
to have them marked so that I can categorize them and make sure I don't
miss any transfers.)
Does anyone have any ideas why the Memo field does not get imported
during regular import?

Thanks.

You might try including one of the QIF file contents into a reply
post. Just put the contents between lines of equal signs rather than
using an attachment. You can change descriptions if you like.

I assume you have memo lines starting with M.

You might also identify what program you are using.

Hi,
Thanks for the help. I am using XL2QIF to export and importing it into

Here are some sample lines:

It came thru garbled, as you can see above. I don't know if that is
an artifact of the message process, or what. The header says
'Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"'

Looking at
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.money/browse_thread/thread/163e11a041a7f7a7/c70c80e7f9546cd0
it comes thru in what looks like maybe Cyrillic.

So anyway, I wonder if this is some coding that Money is not
understanding.

Well, it is cyrillic. An the thing is that money understands it and
imports. When I do "Recover account" it imports all the informaiton.
The only problem is, is that the transactions are not bold and I cannot
see which ones I need to check and "accept". When I do the regular
import, it imports all the information except the MEMO (even though the
payee is Also in Cyrillic and is encoded the exact same way as the
memo).

Thanks

I created this file based on yours but changing the date format and
using ASCII text:
=========================================
!Type:Bank
D12/03/2006
U-445.00
T-445.00
PTestPayee
Mthis is a test memo and the memo 2006 continues blah blah blah..

===================================

Doing File->Import->DownloadStatement in Money 2007 brings the memo
in. I tried longer memo lines, and still did not have the problem.

I don't know why your QIF import has the problem of not showing the
memo when you do File->Import->DownloadStatement but not when you do
File->Import->RecoverAccounts. I understand the downsides of using
File->Import->RecoverAccounts for statements.

Well, I took what you wrote between the ===, and put it in a text file
and then did Import->Downloaded Statement. And... The Memo DID NOT get
imported! Is there sime kind of setting that can be changed to import
or not import memos or cou it be something else???

Thanks!

You are absolutely correct! I guess I didn't think of looking in those
settings since I don't really think of these imports as related to
anything "online".

Thank you very much.
