ipw2200 in 2.6.13-rc1-mm1 makes use of is_broadcast_ether_addr, which was
removed.

The attached patch restores that function for now.

Hi, Andrew.

Please, correct me if I am wrong, but this doesn't seem to include any
fixes for the SBP2 problems that I was seeing, right?

I generated a patch from Linus's 2.6.13-rc1 against the trunk of
linux1394.org's tree containing (as Ben Collins suggested), just the
differences on sbp2.[ch] and it applied without any problems (no skips, no
rejects, no nothing) in -rc1-mm1.

I have not tested -rc1-mm1 without the patch, but assuming that all other
things are equal regarding it, I need this patch for using Firewire on my
computer.

Is there any estimated possibility of including an update from the
linux1394 team in future versions of -mm or, even better, pushing them to
Linus's tree?

Thank you very much, Rogério.

Now, I have tested the -rc1-mm1 and things got worse: it doesn't matter if
I use plain -rc1-mm1 or if I modify sbp2.[ch]. The result is that I can't
see my Firewire drive.

Going to 2.6.13-rc1 with the modification to sbp2.[ch] seems to make the
drive work fine (that's what I am using in this exact moment).

Thanks, Rogério Brito.

Hmm, why is XIP support enabled ?

Nico, shouldn't MTD_XIP depend on XIP_KERNEL ?

That is what usually happens. But the sbp2 related diffs between 2.6.13
and linux1394 are not an update by linux1394 but rather a rewrite by the
scsi folk. Unfortunately, that rewrite was not tested by the linux1394
team. (And was therefore not checked in at svn.linux1394.org. Lack of
manpower was one factor.) So, applying the sbp2 portion of your diff is
a back-out, not an update.

I have a question: Do you need _both_ the sbp2 back-out and ieee1394's
disable_irm parameter, or only one of them?

Hi, Stefan.

Sorry for the late reply, but I am about to be submitted to a surgery and
had to make some health tests, which prevented me from trying to debug
things regarding this problem.

On Jul 02 2005, Stefan Richter wrote:

Ok, I see.

Well, it surely looked like an update, since the revision number of the svn
repo was higher than what is in the kernel right now. But that's from the
standpoint from a luser (me).

With 2.6.13-rc1, I just need the sbp2.[ch] files patched from trunk and
everything works fine (that is, BTW, what I am using right now).

But with the recently released 2.6.13-rc1-mm1, patching the sbp2.[ch] files
isn't sufficient anymore (i.e., I get results similar to what I had when I
first started this thread).

I have not yet had time to pass the disable_irm parameter to a -rc1-mm1
kernel (patched or not), but will do (or anything else, if you guys want me
to) so that we can have Linus's kernel 2.6.13 working as 2.6.12 did (but
with the nice improvements to other subsystems also). :-)

Thank you very much, Rogério.

Thanks, now sata_via and sata_promise load correctly on my machine.

Hi, All.

This is just an update on my earlier e-mail.

With 2.6.13-rc1-mm1, it works if I patch sbp2.[ch] *and* pass the
disable_irm parameter. If I don't pass the parameter, I get the same
strange behaviour as I did before.

I have not yet tested with a vanilla 2.6.13-rc1-mm1 (i.e., without patching
sbp2.[ch]) and with disable_irm=1. I can test this, if desired or any other
thing that you may want me to test.

Thanks, Rogério Brito.

Thanks for the systematic tests.

We need to get it working without disable_irm. I hope to have some spare
time sooner or later to look closer into it. I would get back to you if
I come up with patches to try out or if somebody else proposes a fix.

I get this when building on ppc32:

CC [M] drivers/net/skge.o
drivers/net/skge.c: In function `skge_probe':
drivers/net/skge.c:3151: error: `PCI_REV_DESC' undeclared (first use in this function)
drivers/net/skge.c:3151: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
drivers/net/skge.c:3151: error: for each function it appears in.)

I'm just getting back 'round to building the -mm kernels again,
and I haven't tested any previous version, including 2.6.12 or
2.6.13-rc1, but I'm guessing this might have been introduced by the
merge of skge stuff from Stephen Hemminger (CC'd) in mainline a week
ago.

In any case, I don't have the hardware, so deselecting the config
option gets me a kernel that builds.

My .config is attached, in the case it's useful.

You're welcome. If I can be of any help, then please let me know.

There seems to be an undesired side-effect when I use disable_irm: my PS/2
mouse stops working in X. :-( I have not paid attention to any changes in
the dmesg output, but I didn't notice anything different from a regular
boot. I can test it more as soon as I have some spare time.

I am, then, awaiting for any feedback from you or other linux1394 person.

Thank you, Rogério.

I've filed a bug at kernel bugzilla so your report won't be lost.

Fixed in current mtd git tree.
