Further details:
The attachment is a cropped view of the south polar area, rotated 155
deg clockwise. The arrows point to the extreme left and right points
on the rims of Faustini and Shackleton. The large elliptical
foreground crater in the lower left (of the attachment) is
Schomberger. The massive peak between Schomberger and Faustini is
part of what Ewen Whitaker designated Leibnitz Beta (the remainder is
in shadow). Amundsen is the large, complex crater between the limb
and Leibnitz Beta (to its upper left). The thin trough of shadow
between Amundsen and Leibnitz Beta is designated Nobile by the IAU.
The remaining large shadowed area to the left of Leibnitz Beta is
Scott.
This photo was taken with a strong westerly libration. When the
longitudinal libration is in the other direction, Faustini will appear
somewhat more behind Leibnitz Beta, although never directly behind the
part in sunlight here.
