Why surprise? Acer, Asus etc Taiwanese PC's are also cheaper in the US
than in Taiwan because of fierce competition among online stores and
local retail stores in the states.

Did you read my reply carefully? :-) I said you can get Acer etc
notebooks cheaper in the states than in Taiwan because of fierce
competition. In Taiwan, there are only a few online stores, ie, not
much competition.

The advertised price of a small number of vendor is usually not the
average
price paid by all customers from all the vendors.

Two months ago I was shopping a Taiwanese made notebook and thinking
to buy it when I go back to Taiwan but it turned out I got it much
cheaper in the states. Friends of mine back in Taiwan envied I got it
cheap here.
