Hi there,
Far as I can see there has not been anything on the media here in the islands re the amount of plastic getting washed up from the sea on our shores.
Disgusting man made litter in the vraic and stones.
We can have no notion as to what damage the bloody plastic crap that hasn't been deposited has done to creatures in the water and will continue to harm.
Wherever the sea has splashed, over walls,up beaches through boulders it has shed plastic here in Guernsey.
FACT

Hi Errol,

Here is a link to an article on Sustainable Guernsey about it.  The growing amount of plastic in the sea is certainly something to be concerned about.

With regards,
Rosie

Take 3 Guernsey have invited several media representatives to the beach clean on Sunday.  John Fernandez of BBC Guernsey conducted an interview about sea shore litter recently.

Errol,

Maybe you could write a letter into the Press.  I think that the letter page is one of the most read pages in the paper so you will get your opinion heard and it is an important point to raise.

With regards,
Rosie

Hello Strangers,
We all get weary of what seems like flogging a dead horse,
WE have made great progress, but we still need to do more.
Please realise that the Media needs a NEW  vibrant topic, even though we think it is all joined up, ie waste allowed in the sea, we need to portray these topics in an exciting way.
If anyone has visited the Chouet recycling site in the last few days,,,,  you may have seen how many crab pots have been regurgitated back un-to the land, how much floating plastic ropes are abandoned from the worlds fishing / boating industries?
How much plastic waste is blown out to sea with the southerly gales from the TIP,
We still have not stopped the plastic bags being bought into the Islands,
We still have not reduced any packaging coming into the Islands,
Thousands of wooden pallets ( TREES ) are still being used just once, and abandoned, burnt, or even sent back to the UK at great expense, and wasteing our  worlds resources ?
Happy New Year to you All,
Vic Froome

Paul Le Gallez and I cleaned up the Chouet shore last Tuesday morning - article on Sustainable Guernsey shortly.  We found some interesting stuff including something from a turtle.

Paul Le Gallez had already taken three big bags away in his van before I took this photo.

Best wishes

Richard

Hi Again,
Positive things,,,
I have fishermen, Professional, and pleasure- hobby, who are worried about Monofilament nets, wasted / lost fishing lines / hooks, they worry about the birdlife, I see regularly, dead or suffering, Pair trawling, Factory Ships so we have to be careful how we send out incorrect mesages, also, how much help we can get by helping them, to help us.
Just while I am talking about birds dying, suffering, do you all realise that Guernsey has caused the suffering, and making birds extinct, yes here on Guernsey,
Thousands of birds need to feed, rest, and used to breed here, but because of uncontrolled disturbance of our beaches, birds die, they starve, they are not allowed to rest, they are not allowed to feed, there is nowhere in Guernsey that is legally protected for wildlife on our coasts, not one square centimetre.
The only way we can improve this situation, is to enthuse, excite, educate people, we need all people on our side, slagging them off is a disaster,
if you argue with somebody,,,, you have lost already, people put up a defensive barrier immediately.
Take photographs of things you believe to be wrong, share them, with all, the media as well, they will pick up on the really bad stuff, but they use it.
Vic.
