Subject: Resuming RESTful Bag Server Discussions in 2012

Hi Everybody,

This is just a welcome back message for all the folks who participated in
our RESTful Bag Server group discussions last year. It was a pleasure from
Educopia's perspective to get to connect with so many people doing great
work with resources like BagIt and various other micro-service approaches.
We learned a ton!

As indicated on my last message before the holidays, I'd like to continue
helping to facilitate monthly discussions around the maturing spec, if
folks are still interested. But rather than jump to the conclusion that our
old meeting time works for everybody, I'd like to get a temperature reading
through a Doodle poll for the last week in January (
http://www.doodle.com/cetpkcpqi2b6yuhw). Folks can indicate which
days/times might work. Please approach this as a standing time-slot for the
final week of each month going forward. Poll is in ET, and I'll close it
out next Friday, January 20th.

These calls have been helpful for some of the more invested developers to
check in with each other and discuss implementations of the spec, as well
as to welcome any new and interested folks who just want to lurk (and maybe
dive in deeper as time goes by).

If I see enough of the old faces filling out the poll, and hopefully a
decent handful of new and interested faces, I'll get a call scheduled
during that last week in January. If not, I'll take it to mean we've
reached a point with the spec where folks are ready to explore
implementations in a more independent and ad hoc fashion. In that event,
I'll probably hold off on resuming until I get a critical mass of requests
from the community.

Other groups and individuals are always welcome to pick up the ball and run
with facilitating group calls in the future as well.

Notes from our last call are available in the previous message. And as
always the spec can be found here:
https://github.com/acdha/restful-bag-server.

Thanks,

Hi Again,

Last call on the Doodle scheduler for resuming monthly calls for our
RESTful Bag Server development. I'll close the scheduler this evening at
8pm ET. Depending on what sort of a critical mass we get, we'll see about
whether to resume with a brief (re-)starter call this month (during the
last week of Jan.), or wait for some future renewed interest. Look for an
update this evening.

Thanks,

Hi Everybody,

Thanks to those who took the time to drop in on the scheduler for resuming
monthly calls for the RESTful Bag Server work. At this point we'll hold off
on resuming calls, until there are more requests that come forward. Folks
can always contact me at matt.schu...@metaarchive.org to express future
interest in facilitating calls. I'm happy to consider. I'd also be happy
sitting in on any future calls that other individuals or groups would like
to host around this interesting set of development.

In any such interim, I'll touch base off-list with the principal spec
developers to make sure that documentation (open issues, etc.) is
sufficient for interested parties to drop in on the GitHub site (
https://github.com/acdha/restful-bag-server) and move forward on
implementations, or pick up on future collaborations. I'll likely post a
summary of the work on educopia.org as well.

As mentioned before the holidays, the group reached the point where we were
very eager to encourage other interested parties to just dive in and
establish a reference server implementation and request to fork the
repository as desired to help inspect and finalize the test suite. If there
are folks out there who have an immediate use case for the spec please be
encouraged to proceed. The developers tend to be very responsive to
messages sent through GitHub.

Thanks,
