Thank you very much!!!!! Should be fixed now...

As long as dbEntrance Software is in business there will
be a community version on our web site. We expect
to be in business for a long time, since we continue to sell
product even in this lousy economy. (Mac and Windows
customers subsidize everybody else)

Incidentally, any GPLed open source project you like need not "close
up": If the project site goes down you simply take the source and
binaries and make your own, taking care to respect any
copyright and trademark issues that apply.

In the case of Entrance, there is another reason to be confident
that our community version will not go away. Community version
helps Java developers write Entrance extensions.

Although not well documented yet, it is possible to extend
the chart making engine with new charts (See the
"The Chart Extension Framework" at this link:
http://todlandis.com/NewCharts.html) and to extend the IDE with
new menu functionality (see "Entrance Extensions" here:
http://todlandis.com/EntranceExtensions.html)

The chart or ide extensions people write work for both the
community and "ide" versions, and the community sources
should help them do it by providing examples. (A few changes are
coming that will make this process easier)

Thank that's enough for now. Again, thank you for the help!

Best regards,
- Tod

PS. I'll forwarded this to the Entrance Google Group with your
identifying
info removed: http://groups.google.com/group/dbentrance/topics

Hey, dbentrance, the following lines all link to apple.com ....

<linky.jpeg>

perhaps it's in your HTML. I don't personally know if just closing an
<area tag with a /> completes it or if firefox is demanding a close /
area> tag.

Anyway, I am sure that Apple appreciates the links but doesn't need
them!!

possible offending code???

<area href="http://dbentrance.com/downloads/entranceCommunity.zip"
title="http://dbentrance.com/downloads/entranceCommunity.zip"
alt="http://dbentrance.com/downloads/entranceCommunity.zip"
onmouseout="IMmouseout('shapeimage_3', '29');" shape="rect"
onmouseover="IMmouseover('shapeimage_3', '29');" coords="97, 1266,
307, 1300" onload="IMpreload('index_files', 'shapeimage_3', '29');" /
><area href="http://dbentrance.com/downloads/srcCommunity.zip"
title="http://dbentrance.com/downloads/srcCommunity.zip" alt="http://
dbentrance.com/downloads/srcCommunity.zip" onmouseout="IMmouseout
('shapeimage_3', '30');" shape="rect" onmouseover="IMmouseover
('shapeimage_3', '30');" coords="97, 1314, 307, 1348" onload="IMpreload
('index_files', 'shapeimage_3', '30');" /><area href="http://
www.apple.com/" title="http://www.apple.com/" alt="http://
www.apple.com/" coords="93, 36, 352, 1389" />

FWIW, the link to open source/community gets more obscure every time I
visit the site. Will it be going away?

Too often in the past, open source has just closed up. I hope you
remain open, because that's the only kind of code I recommend.

HTH,

(withheld)

Hi, an associate gave me a copy of this software to try out, but the
first time I ran it there was a message that the trial version has
expired. So I downloaded a fresh copy from your website, but it says
the same thing. How can I try the software?

Reply:
Sorry for the inconvenience. Our build timestamps
weren't updated when they should have been.

I have corrected the problem, but you will also need to
remove the old Entrance settings folder from your system:

- on the Mac: rename or delete
(your home folder)/Library/Application Support/Entrance

- on other systems (eg. Windows, Solaris): rename or delete
(your home directory)/.entrance

Again, sorry for the inconvenience. Please let me know
if you have any further problems or questions....

We will be demonstrating Entrance Community in the
Dot Org Pavilion at the MySQL Users Conference again this
year. The conference will be held in Santa Clara, California,
at the Santa Clara Convention Center, April 20-23, 2009

Shane Duan and I will be in booth TT5, with buildable sources, so
if there is a new feature idea you have been itching to try out, stop
by and we will see what we can do. A user suggestion
last year led us to make the matchbox "blush" for WHERE
clause errors.

More to come after we do the release on the 14th...
