Dear Pooja

Mediation & moderations are the higher effects in SEM.
Let me explain the concept by an example.

I work in Marketing and believe that Service Quality (SQ) leads to Satisfaction which in turn leads to Repurchase Intention (RI).
Now in this model, I believe that Sat acts as a mediator between the SQ & RI. This means that SQ must leads to Sat and Sat must lead to RI. In case Sat is found not related with any of the SQ or RI then we'll say it is not a mediator.
So mediator is always a participating var and it comes in between the DV & IDV.

Now I take the same example from another perspective. I wish to check whether the relation of between Sat & RI is same for the different type of products viz. FMCG & Capital items. I think in FMCG products even if someone is satisfied that may not lead to RI. Now here the type of product is not a mediator rather moderator. This is affecting the overall relation but its not the SQ leads to Type and Type leads to RI.
And ask for any/every doubt.
