The Fritzing application (http://fritzing.org) focuses on people
entering their "project" as it would appear on a real bread-board.

It then provides two subsequent views, 1) schematic and 2) circuit
board, which allow you to alter the placements and wire / track
routing.

The idea is that you can then generate a PDF of the result and use it
to
create your own PCB, i.e. it helps you get from bread-boarding to a
real
PCB as easily as possible. Especially, for those people who would
feel
overwhelmed (at first) by Eagle.

Fritzing looks like it has a lot of potential, but it is still early
days in terms of reliability and functionality, e.g. library of
components.

During this Saturday's meeting, there will be a time set aside for
hackers getting up-to-speed with their Arduinos and related tools /
utilities.

Hello everyone (de-lurking here),

This looks really interesting - I am definitely one of those who
would be overwhelmed by EAGLE, and this would work really nicely with
a toner-transfer etching method, as it produces PDFs. Is anyone
thinking of fusing it together with a simulator such as kTechlab?

I should introduce myself while I'm here. I'm a law student with an
undergrad in Comp Sci. I used to do a fair bit of electronics,
although I'm not so good at it, and I've had to kind of give it away
due to my study load. I'm still interested in helping out around the
'space. My main interest at the moment is in computer controlled
fabrication, particularly laser cutting, because I stencil t-shirts
and canvasses as a hobby. If any of you seen Bilal Ghalib's under
US$50 laser cutter, I helped him a little with the server software,
but never got around to building one of my own.

Anyway, Hi!

Bryn.

hi Bryn and all lurkers,

With a big HackerSpaces meeting on this weekend, I'd like to encourage
all of the lurkers to come out-of-the-closet !

Starting with a platform like the Arduino, allows hackers of all
abilities to be involved.

Note: The Arduino is a starting point to establish common ground
between the members. It isn't the only hardware we'd like to play
with.

All help is appreciated ... especially during these formative stages.
Getting the HackerSpace more formally established is a key task.

Don't be shy ... no-one bites (except Aiko).

It would be excellent if more lurkers introduce themselves and their
skills (the more diverse, the better).

Having a laser cutter in the HackerSpace would be excellent.

I'm sure that we could encourage a few members who are looking for a
project to build this.
