Many of us have to use fake 'From:' fields in NewsPosts
to avoid spammers.
I've been using no-to...@gmail.com

But google doesn't find 'all posts
between startDate & endDate by no-to...@gmail.com',
although it does if I use another 'From:' field.

After much wondering I think perhaps "-" is not a valid
char in an email-adr ?
Is this my problem?

== TIA

- is valid. Looks like their search is broken since your posts
are there and can be found using "Find messages by this author"
from one of your messages.

No. A lot of chars are allowed in the local-part (left of @).

Well not for my attempts, which I've repeatedly logged.
Here's a log, with the long lines suitable cut.: ---
http://groups.google.com/groups?safe=images&ie=ISO-8859-1&as_uauthors=
Ali...@gmail.com&lr=&as_drrb=b
&as_mind=11&as_minm=8&as_miny=2009
&as_maxd=8&as_maxm=9&as_maxy=2009&num=30&hl=en

Groups [14]View all web results > Results 1 - 5 of 5 from Aug
11, 2009 to Sep 8, 2009 for author:Ali...@gmail.com
======= that's good one/example
http://groups.google.com/groups?safe=images&ie=ISO-8859-1&as_uauthors=
no-to...@gmail.com&lr=&as_drrb=b
&as_mind=11&as_minm=8&as_miny=2009
&as_maxd=8&as_maxm=9&as_maxy=2009&num=30&hl=en

Your search - - did not match any documents.
======= that's one of many/all failures, for "no-to...@gmail.com"

When I do online tests like this, I usually send a confirming task;
like Ccing to yourself, confirms that the email was successfuly
mailed.
=======
As you can see, I don't just use a 'browser' and fill in the
forms. I mostly use lynx, with my own created templates.
So now, I'm guessing that 'the normal broswers' convert
the "-" char ?
Can you see/capture what actual URL your browser sends ?

OK, the problem seems more complex ?

When viewing one of your messages on google groups such as
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.os.linux.networking/browse_thread/thread/3ddc89b4fe4b4def/983bde40b72ad0c1
I can click "More options" and get "Find messages by this author" which
leads to this url
http://groups.google.com/groups/search?enc_author=ljWOthQAAAAjlgaDDQcfbRguIhiwjWtsOPANdqfI6prRsqjc7uCt1A&scoring=d
which brings up posts by you. I don't know the encoding method that
google is using for the enc_author value.
