Hi there --

I have just purchased a 1960s Bristol 24 with inboard motor on
Chesapeake Bay. I'm looking for some suggestions: 1. Where can I get a
door to go between the foreward cabin and main cabin (this one has
none), and 2. Any ideas on finding an insert (board and cushion) for
the v-berth to extend the berth area across the middle cut out area by
the doorway?

Very excited about this - my first "real" boat.

Thanks!

- Peter

I  would  think  a   consignment  store  for  the  door-  many  carry  salvaged  items  from  boats  that  have  been  dismantled.  As  for  the  insert---you  can  cut  one  or  have  it  cut by  any  local  lumber place  or  wood   worker. The  cushion  you  might  also  find  in a  consignment shop. OR   hav e it  made  by a local  upholsterer.

Welcome  and  you  will get  lots  of  HANDY  answers  here.

Peter ~

What model Bristol 24 to you have – “dinette” with the door slightly to stbd or the other “standard” model with the door centered? The doors are different. I have a surplus door from the “dinette” model, and believe I know where a door from the “standard” model might be found.  I narrowed the doorway on my boat by installing a heavier compression post = port side door jamb, and have decided not to cut the door down to reinstall it. Instead I will use a curtain that does not take up as much space when not in use.

Hello Peter, welcome to the group. I have a door as well as I have completely refigured the main bulkhead and no longer need a door. If you're planning to put a board across the v-berth you probably won't need one either as it is an inswing towards the bow and will make it hard to get in or out.

Hi Peter, Welcome. The reason you don't have a door, and everyone else
has one to give away, is they just get in the way on such a small boat.
They look really cool but they end up being an unnecessary obstacle more
often than not. A curtain is probably a more practical way to separate
the cabins.
