Friends,

If you are interested to attend this demo, pl. let me know. I mean it would be good to ask a demo if a minimum of 10 members are willing to participate. I am very occupied this weekend. So can't attend.

Srihari garu, are you interested to coordinate?

Dear Prasanthi,

It it nice to know the group and your activities. Your group has taken up a great cause and thinking about stoves. We do require 120 million good stoves in India alone. The indoor air pollution is the cause of 5 lakhs people killed every year in India and 16 lakhs globally.

Yes, we can facilitate Good Stoves. I have designed 30 Good Stoves which are highly efficient and low cost http://www.goodstove.com . I am the founder and CEO of Geoecology Energy Organisation (GEO) http://www.e-geo.org - an initiative to mitigate climate change through adaptation.

I am well conversant with the people and geography of Mahabubnagar District, about 300 stoves designed by me have been adopted by communities in parts of Mahabubnagar District, including Chenchu tribals in Nallamalai forest area. Yes, we can facilitate 500 nos of  Good Stove Portable within a week, which can be constructed in the field and involving the local community. They can be constructed elsewhere but, transportation is additional cost.

All the designs are declared as "Open Knowledge" for the common good. If your group has a team, I can train and help them in construction of these stoves too.

As a long term initiative, I would suggest to adopt Magh series stoves. The recent floods are also due to climate change and global warming. The highly efficient Good Stoves like Magh series which are TLUD / gasifier technology, reduce the CO2 emissions and also conserve the biomass. The biochar produced can be used for improving the fertility of the soils http://www.biocharindia.com . I am presently leading a project in Jangaon, AP "Good Stoves and Biochar Communities" Magh CM is the stove being facilitated to the community at Jangaon, they cost more than the Good Stove Portable, but highly efficient. The production and dissemination takes at least 2 weeks. We can discuss about the logistics and plans and could meet during your visit on 15th.

With best regards,

Dr. N. Sai Bhaskar Reddy

Greetings.

I got your contact details while searching google for eco-friendly stoves. I am Prasanthi, co-ordinator of a likeminded groups platform, Birds of same feathers.

Some of us visited Alampur and did a small survey in the streets near by the river. Most of them requested for stoves. But they cannot afford the price of kerosene.

I want to know if you can produce to the tune of 500 stoves in 5 days time or so. (I read that one particular type of stove can be made in half an hour but should be kept 3 days to dry).

More than all this, I want your suggestion on the cost-effective and eco-friendly stoves for these people. We are planning to visit Alampur on 15th of November.

If you can give your contact number or address, some of us will come and meet you in person.

This is my number: 98850-26676.

Hi Pavan and others,

Greetings!!

There is nothing to let you know. The details are clearly given. We have the phone number and address. Someone has to take the lead and see if a minimum of 10 members are there to attend and then fix the time with Sai Bhaskar garu.

Contact AMMA Sreenivas (9177999263) and find out how many from his group are interested to come. Similarly contact other members. Just give a call to one member from each group and ask them to let you know how many from their group are willing to come.

I hope you have the numbers of members of other groups (Refer the Pochampally visit excel sheet or else pl. give a call to me)

Dear All,

Thank you very much for visiting GEO and discussing about the
possibilities of Good Stoves to the Alampur community. Hope we find
the right place for production of Good Stoves as soon as possible.
Please see some of the photos of todays visit.

All,

It was really a very nice visit to GEO office of Mr. Sai Bhaskar. We (myself, Prashanthi, Santhosh, two other persons, I am sorry I do not remember their names) were there at GEO office at around 9:30 AM.

Mr. Sai Bhaskar showed his office, and his projects with environment. I would rather call his office as environment friendly place. There were three rabbits, a few parrots, three fish tanks, couple of sparrows, lots of plants around in the first floor balcony. There was a green colored plastic sheet (semi transparent) cover on the top (like a roof, giving green house effect).
Mr. Sai Bhaskar showed his experiments with Biochar (which is nothing but natural charcoal), being used as manure along with dirt and red soil. There were soil combination with biochar starting with 0% biochar (no biochar), 3%, 5% and 16% and there were tree plantations in the same. It was realized that the usage of biochar with 3% to 5% is more greener. He also told us that charcoal (or any product with carbon content) in general is very useful for humans.
He took examples where carbon is used is many products like safety masks, water filters, ash being used in washing, tooth powders, etc. Lot of traditional values like ash ('vibhudhi, which is carbon rich) is used in temples, smoke from coal and 'sambrani', 'agarbathi' etc.

Its just that we are trying to break the cycle of natural production of biochar (carbon). We are trying to use carbon beyond our limits and trying to burn it in an uncontrolled fashion, which will lead to global warming. The same biochar can be generated from controlled burning (energy efficient stoves), which are then demonstrated by Mr. Sai Bhaskar. He showed us various types of stoves that he invented/discovered. The highlights of these stoves are:

1. Very energy efficient, which was clearly demonstrated. There was no black smoke generated, because there were certain factors like the length of the stove, proper inlet and outlet for the air to flow, which makes it more energy efficient.

2. Low cost, since everything is made out of locally available material. Some stoves are made with potters small pot (with few hols drilled) for even mere Rs. 10 (used for boiling small milk can etc), Some of them are made out of iron tins (mostly used for storing oil), and to make the burning chamber and make it as a stove, they use PVC pipes in the tin and put rice husk or cement with bricks. Once that is filled with it, PVC pipes are removed when it is wet. This takes about 2 to 3 days for it to be dried and then can be used as stoves. It hardly takes 30 minutes to make these stoves. There were also one portable stove which can be taken to any place in our vehicles and needs to be powered by 12V battery (for the exhaust fan). This may not be technically exhaust fan, but this is the fan that controls the flame and helps in burning even the gases that come out after combustion.

Mr. Sai Bhaskar said when asked that he is against having this technology patented. Having patenting technology creates lot of issues like hindering the usage and money making ideas etc, which makes things totally out of control. He always wanted all his creation/invention to be open to public as much as possible. He only cares of right use of these stoves and ideas.

After the demo, we then had a discussion on how we can make about stoves for flood victims in Alampur. To make stoves for 700 families, Mr. Sai Bhaskar suggested to have about 700 to 1000 Sq. Yd open land, where is power. For now, we are trying to find such a place. It will cost roughly about Rs. 100 for each stove (including all the raw material cost and resources for making it).

Finally it was really nice talking to Mr. Sai Bhaskar and we got to know and learn lot of things.

Thanks and regards.
