Hi all

I'm trying to set up BBB 0.8 on ubuntu 10.04 and in the step "sudo apt-get install bigbluebutton"

I get the following error: (I have copied the "/etc/apt/sources.list" and run update) - I had some issues with installing ruby via the script and with gem and sudo gem but I have resolved that. However, I had to install latest version of ruby and gem
ruby 1.9.3p194 and gem 1.8.24

Hi Ismael,

Can you post the errors you received trying to install the recommended versions of ruby.

We've not tested BigBlueButton with later versions of ruby.  It should work, of course, but clearly it's not.   It looks like the gems are not installing.  Can you tell us the output of

   gem list

Also, are you behind a HTTP proxy.  If so, see

Regards,... Fred

Thanks Fred

I'm not being a proxy. However, my local IP is also mapped to an external IP via the firewall/switch

This is the output of gem list

*** LOCAL GEMS ***

builder (3.0.0)
bundler (1.1.5)
god (0.12.1)
hello (0.0.1)
rake (0.9.2.2)
rubygems-bundler (1.0.6)
rvm (1.11.3.5)

How would I re-create the errors with installing the ruby version you have in your tutorial?

Thanks
Ismael

Hi Ismael,

Are you using rvm?  RVM creates a ruby environment in your shell, but this environment is not propagated to the install scripts.

Originally, we looked at using RVM to install ruby on a BigBlueButton server.  We need ruby to be available to init.d scripts and install scripts.  It looks like the gems you installed using RVM are available only to your account.

Can you uninstall ruby using RVM and try installing ruby again using the scripts provided in the installation instructions?
