Hi BB folks,

probably people in charge of this do already get their hands dirty and
will inform the community in due time what to expect from the WebM
project [1] and the BB.

I hope this message will get us this information a little earlier. ;-) I
already found [2], [3] and [4] on the Web.

[2] states in the comment that support is planned for all OMAP versions.

I have to admit I do not know a lot about this stuff. I just remember
that the DSP is needed for h264, 720p playback [5]. So I guess this also
applies to WebM/VP8.

So could someone please tell me, what is needed to get WebM supported by
the BB. (The following questions might not make any sense.) Is just a
GStreamer plugin needed? Will TI contribute support to use the DSP for
decoding? Can only TI write this support? Is there a roadmap
already? ;-) …

Thanks,

Paul

On2 has had a VP8 DSP codec for quite a while now, but I suspect you need to pay $$$ for that.

Koen

I played briefly with vp8 on an omap3, decoding it on the arm (what
google released has armv7 and neon support already). It was ok to play
a 360p demo file, but was far to slow for 720p...
