Hi All,

In continuation to our efforts, for Android port on Beagle, we are
pleased to release Beagle-Android build.

Our Goal is to have stable customized Android build for Beagle Board.
We will try to add features and make sure Android works on Beagle Board
out of Box.

Here are steps to sync Beagle-Android build over repo:-

1. mkdir beagledroid
2. cd beagledroid
3. repo init -u
git://labs.embinux.org/repo/android/platform/beaglemanifest.git/
4. repo sync
5. make

Beagle Kernel with Android patches is located in kernel directory.

Enjoy Androing ...

Hi Rupesh,

Thanks for creating a git for repository for the Beagle port:) I was
able to create a working image. However, the Music app does not
work. Is audio still broken?

Cheers,
Jay

I am trying to compile the repository, however, it bails out with an
error about sun java. I actually did install the JDK, but that didn't
solve the problem. It seems like a malformed comment field. I am using
Ubuntu 9.04.

Eelco,

Are you able to compile original Android build from http://source.android.com successfully ?

I gave it a try and this kernel doesn't give me any output via DVI.
According to the serial console output it seems to be booting fine., though.

Replacing the kernel with the one included in the older binary release
from http://www.embinux.com/download_beagle.php works.

Besides that, how do you shut down the system. The documentation says
something about the left windows key, but that seems to be doing nothing.

The applications run pretty unstable (that's with the old release as
well), especially the keyboard application crashes often. Is this
expected behaviour for the current state of the release or could there
be something wrong with my setup (B6 with keyboard via hub at USB OTG in
host mode)?

I will look into this issue, looks like something is missing from omapfb
driver.

I issue reboot command from serial console output. ( a dirty way to
bring down system )

Yes even I found this behavior, but I guess its generic issue with
Android apps. Our aim will be to fix anything that is platform specific,
and leave rest to android team.

All:
I got the problem when I sync the repo, it always promoted:
unable to look up android.git.kernel.org(port 9418)(Name or service not known)

Is there any other way to get the repo?

Best regards,
Alpha

Alpha,
No idea about other way to download build. Probably following link might help to get rid of firewall issue.

Hi Rupesh,

Thanks for your efforts.
I successfuly compiled the kernel and android as per described in your
porting post.
Since I have some problems with my ethernet adapter I prefer to use
the mmc local boot and not NFS.
The flash contained the previous release of android from
http://www.embinux.com/download_beagle.php which worked fine.

I have copied the Android_RFS/* content into my ext3 partition (I
updated the bootargs with ext3).
Then I have replaced uImage on the FAT boot partition to:
~/beagleboard/kernel/arch/arm/boot/uImage
(I used beagleboard directory naming instead of beagledroid)

I see nothing through the terminal (using the DVI)
Maybe it is a same problem like Bjoern reported.

any idea?

The log contains many errors:

Yos,

Logs looks good to me, I can see android booting fine and starting its
services.
Problem is with display, probably with video mode supported by your LCD
or sync problems.
It is working fine with my LCD. But yes, as reported previously looks
like, some problems do exists.
I am limited as I don't have the hardware to test with. I will try to
address this issue.

Regards,

Rupesh,

Just let me know if you need any help or information with that.
Note that the previous release worked for the same LCD monitor without
any problem.
Also, while in boot the android logo is available on the monitor. But
after booting the monitor doesn't detect the DVI input and hence works
only on the other analog input.

Regards,
