Interesting article on Duarte's Tavern in Pescadero - thinking of
going here is a few weeks for dinner.

Nice article. It was also fun to read the comments.

An interesting tidbit about Duarte's for you genealogists...

Last time I was at Duarte's (in August, 2009) there were several
pictures on the wall--sort of behind the entry door to the restaurant
(not the bar). One was a "panororama" style--very long, don't know the
proper term. It was a picture of some of the menfolk of the town. They
were labeled with names! I found my grandmother's first cousin's
husband who also happens to be buried in the cemetery there. I had
never seen a picture of him. There were many Azoreans in the area at
that time.

If you are visiting Pescadero and the weather is dry, do visit St.
Anthony's cemetery on Stage Rd north of town.

When I went to CA five or six years ago, time flies, I had gone to SF for
the first time and then drove down the coastline. I did stop at Duarte's, a
great rustic tavern. The food was fabulous especially the Dungeness Crab,
their signature dish, as the assortment of pies.

If you are around that area visiting, you have to stop in.

I'm curious about the pronounciation of the name Duarte here as DOO-
art. I have found current generations pronouncing it this way. My
Duarte grandparents and relatives from the Azores always pronounced it
Dew-art-ee or Due-war-tee. I'm wondering how the current residents in
the Azores pronounce it. Or if the name is in your genealogy...how do
you pronounce it?

We went to Duarte's several years ago and had the Artichoke soup for lunch. Great place.  There is also a Portuguese hall on the main street there also. At nearby Pidgon point there is an old  light light house. If I'm not mistaken.there was also a shore whaling station on the coast nearby at one time. The area is definitely worth a days outing.

And as an aside--the people of Pescadero say (for example), "I had
breakfast at Dwart's this morning..." :)

Here's a nice link on Myron Duarte - 1st cousin and professional
bullrider.

He/we always pronounced it DOO-art.

When we went to Pescadero and ate at Duarte's we also did the light house at Pidgon Point. It's worth seeing.
