I received this from National Geographic Daily News.  Great article and wonderful pictures.  Be sure to go to the 2nd (next) page to see more pictures. Maybe some of the people are your family members?

Thanks E!! Loved reading the whaling article. As you said, as I read about each old timer, I wondered if they were cousins I hadn't found yet. Pico & Faial are where my grandparents were born.

E, Thanks for sharing this.  Love the pictures and the article as well.  Especially the story about Jose Silveira Jorge who fell into the whale’s mouth.  If you haven’t already, be sure to click on the link highlighted in the story.  Incredible!  Sam in California

E, Thanks for the whaler article.  The author has written several other articles on whaling in Azores as well.  Enjoyed reading them too and saw a cousin of mine, Joao Tavares from Ribeiras in one of the articles with his photo.  He still builds whaling boats in Ribeiras.  Thanks for sharing such a nice article with us.

Patricia-I believe we may have some common ancestry. Not sure the exact relationship but this shows on one of 60 pages I received from a member of this group. My Grandmother was born in Cedros  Faial -Mary Amelia Dutra-she married John Arruda Botelho son of Jose Arruda Botelho and Ana Leite Borges Bicudo was born
on 12 Jul 1882 in Sao Pedro, Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Azores. He died on 14 Aug
1970 in Bristol, RI.
5.  Mary Amelia Dutra daughter of Francisco Pereira Dutra Escobar and Rosa Maria da
Conceicao was born on 02 Aug 1891 in Santa Barbara, Cedros, Faial, Azores. She died on
06 Jun 1960 in Newport, RI.
John Arruda Botelho and Mary Amelia Dutra were married etc.

Elsewhere is the info below-that has some similarities to what you posted:

 93. Ana Maria  daughter of Antonio Silveira GOULART and Maria Dutra was born on 31 Jul
1765 in Santa Barbara, Cedros, Faial, Azores. She died on 02 Aug 1833 in Santa Barbara,
Cedros, Faial, Azores.
Jose Francisco Pereira da Rosa Rodrigues and Ana Maria were married on 14 Jun 1788 in
Santa Barbara, Cedros, Faial, Azores. They had the following children:
i. Antonio da Rosa  was born in Santa Barbara, Cedros, Faial, Azores.

Thought they may be the same Antonio Silveria Goulart?  Patricia Arruda Paquette Middletown R.I.

Hello Cousin!!!
Yippee!! It is always exciting to find new cousins. Are you sure we haven't emailed before? Your name is familiar. Anyway, your grandma, Mary Amelia, is my 3rd cousin 1 x removed. And both your ggrandparents are cousins. I am connected to everyone that you mentioned.

Oh, I grew up in Jamestown, RI, close to you, but have lived in Las Vegas for many years. You have filled in a few blanks for me Thanks.

Patricia
