Hi Sandra,

Yes that is half of the equation.

One of Stewart Murray and Rosetta’s sons was James, I suspect James Innes FULLARTON.

I am descended from a Stewart FULLARTON and a Mary BOYD through their “natural” (not “lawful”) child Barbara.

Barbara married a David GLOVER and one son came to Australia (my GG grandfather) and then went to New Zealand during the gold rushes, two other sons went to Pennsylvania.

A son of James Innes FULLARTON, Robert Russell FULLARTON, came to Melbourne and became an important colonial figure as President of the Marine Board, President of the Melbourne Harbour Trust and a leader in the formation of a colonial navy (those Russians AGAIN. His home in Albert Park, Melbourne, was named “BARTONHOLM”

I have recently found a descendent of one of the brothers who went to America and he has sent me a cutting from an Australian newspaper of 1895 reporting the death of Robert Russell FULLARTON.

This suggests two things to me, firstly that these immediate descendents of two FULLARTON families from Bartonholm were somehow related, and secondly that in spite of distance they were still in contact and that a family member in the antipodes advised those in the US of Robert’s death.

My current purpose is to confirm whether or not there was a relationship.

Cheers

Hi: Better late than never, I finally add to this.

As mentioned to another member of the group, the book The History of Irvine  - Royal Burgh and New Town by John Strawhorn was published by Cunninghame Council in l985 and reprinted in l986.

There are a dozen references to various Fullartons, as well as many on the parish and town of Fullarton, next to Irvine, which was created by one of them. Surrounding villages and parishes are also mentioned, Bartonholm having over 30 references.

Should be available 2nd hand, (if not found new), on ABE books or other second hand  book sites. Just type the title in and see.
