The Christian Aid Goodwill Ambassador from Uganda, founder and spokesperson for the African Network of Religious Leaders Living with and Personally Affected by HIV and Aids (ANERELA+), Canon Gideon Byamugisha, will be the special guest speaker at Alfred Street Baptist Church, on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 7 pm, during his visit to the United States to participate in the AIDS 2012 International AIDS Conference.  The first religious leader in Africa to publicly announce that he was HIV positive, he will highlight the urgency of the church's response to HIV/AIDS around the globe.  ASBC previously supported those living with AIDS in Uganda through the foundation that he supervises.  A native Ugandan and recipient of the 26th annual Niwano Peace Prize in 2009, he has published extensively on the topic of AIDS (Google Reference: "Canon Gideon Byamugisha").  For more information on this event, contact Rev. Great find.  Perhaps this expense (purchase of booklets) can be included in the 2013 ministry budget.

A new resource is available to help the Aging Services Network educate older adults about HIV/AIDS. The booklet, Let's Face It: Older Adults Speak About HIV, was created by the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA) to allow the concerns of older adults living with or at risk for HIV to be heard in their own voices. The booklet includes 12 stories that focus on issues that have been found to be particularly common in older adults.
